Shower invitation wording (XP)

I cross posted this on the invites and paper board, but I'm concerned about the etiquette of wording and I need some advice. I'm hosting a bridal shower at my home, and I'm unsure of how to state the location on the invitation (I'm ordering printed invites as opposed to the write-in style). Should I put "Hosted by [me]" or "At the home of [me]"? I'm worried about sounding ostentatious. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Shower invitation wording (XP)

  • Are you hosting your own bridal shower?  If so, this is not proper.  You should not host your own event for others to shower you with gifts.
  • The only etiquette thing would be to not host your own shower.

I always find it helpful to know who's hosting the shower so that I can go up and say thank you/give them a hostess gift/whatever. I never find it ostentatious when I see "Hosted by"

  • If it's a shower for someone else, I would just put "at the home of.." But neither is incorrect.
  • There's always a host and the host should always be listed on the invitation, no matter where the event takes place.

The only ostentatious thing would be hosting your own shower. If someone else is really hosting this for you, the wording would be something like

Please join us at a wedding shower honoring Craftsygirl
    hosted by Sally Smith

    Date, Time

    at Craftsygirl's home
    Address

RSVP to Sally at phone number/email by date

  • It's for my sister (which I know it's not technically proper for a family member to host, but I'm the sole attendant, and she's lived out of our home state for 10ish years now). Thank you ladies!

There is no problem with a sister hosting a bridal shower. That's an older tradition, that is not really side eyed anymore. I hosted my sister's shower, and she hosted mine.
