Beach Ceremony/Pics

I have a GORGEOUS lace A-line wedding dress.  I see tons of pictures of the bride and groom playing around on the beach, and sometimes in the water.  I like the idea of this pics, BUT the bottom of my dress will get soaked in seawater!  Then on top of the wetness, it will attract extra sand.  How long will it take for that to dry out?  I don't want to be uncomfortable in a half-wet gown all night!  Also, will the salt water totally ruin the fabric??

    It depends on the fabric and the weather that day. It sounds extremely uncomfortable...and all for a picture? Not worth it IMHO

    I'm getting married at the beach (not on the beach) and I'm not getting near the water when it comes time to go down to the beach for pics.  There's no way I would ruin my dress for something like that.  I know that's the trend now, but I would be sick if seawater and sand got on the bottom of my dress.

    It will take a long while for your dress to dry out.  Way longer then the length of your reception.

    If you want pictures like this then I suggest you get them done the day AFTER your wedding.

    Morning after photos/day after the wedding photos are becoming trendy* in wedding photography, and I'm betting this is what you saw. I can't imagine anyone running into the ocean in a wedding gown right before the reception.

    Photos aren't everything. Unless the dress will have no sentimental value and you won't consider selling it or donating it, I can't see how this is worth it.

    ETA - I use the term "trendy" very loosely. I've seen it on wedding blogs before. My personal opinion is that there are probably a lot of other things that the money could be spent on rather than even more hair/makeup/photography fees the day after the wedding.

    This is a good point, if you are planning to change in between the ceremony and the reception, then I could see doing it then.  Otherwise, I would just wait until the day after or something.

    I'd probably side-eye a couple who does a trash the dress session while their guests are waiting for them. IMO, waiting for the couple to get pictures with their family is one thing, but trash the dress is best suited for another day (if ever).

    But yes, it would be more practical to change into a second dress if they are set on doing this after the ceremony. Plus another suit for the groom.

    @dallasbetch, I agree on those accounts too.  If I'm waiting two hours for the bride and groom to show up because they are doing a trash the dress session=not cool.  But I think (maybe) the OP was referring to a few pics at the very end of the pictures that are being taken after the ceremony.  In which case I would be ok with it, I would think it was odd, because I don't get that whole running into the ocean thing, but I would be ok with it.

    Also, I don't know about the rest of you, but if I step into salt water I feel icky and just want to shower when I get out.  I certainly wouldn't be comfortable wearing the same dress or even a different one after getting into the ocean.  Also, rogue waves crashing down and ruining hair and makeup.

    @maggie0829, I'm with you.  I feel like a diva because when given the option to do our ceremony on the beach or overlooking the beach, I chose overlooking the beach because I didn't want to get my dress dirty.

    I couldn't imagine being all saltwater wet with a dress on.  Let alone a wedding gown.

    @plainjane0415 - sand gets everywhere even when you are careful so the last thing I would want to do is walk all around a beach or near the ocean in my fancy wedding dress.

    Maybe after the reception, when you are still dolled up you can get a photographer and prance through the waves with your DH, then go have a shower or something?

    The name of the area we are getting married is called "The Eternity Lawn" LOL It sits up above the ocean with panoramic views.  All the appeal of the beach, but with no sand or saltwater :)

    And I get to wear cute shoes because we are having the ceremony on the lawn.....Shoes, are important to me. :)

    I am getting married on the beach and I fully expect to get sand on my dress. I do not have any plans to get into the water or wet sand because I don't really want to ruin my dress either. I suspect most of these pictures we see are either a "trash the dress" or post-wedding photo session or some may be simply photoshoots rather than real weddings.
