BFF said yes! Update

So I've been dealing with this awesome herniated disc in my neck for the past week, but luckily I was still able to go to her birthday/engagement dinner. Here's how it went down:

I was talking to her all morning about her birthday dinner with then-bf, his family and her sister. She walked into the room and saw his ENTIRE family, her sister, cousins, her dad came, all his friends and hers and started crying. She couldn't believe around 30 people came just for her birthday. They sat her next to me so I could calm her down because the night was only going to get better! She and I shared these fish bowl sized containers of alcohol and she calmed down and then we got drunk. Like very drunk.

She took me to the bathroom, "omg I can't believe he did this blah blah blah". I let her know that more birthday surprises were coming and she should get ready because she told me she didn't want to ugly cry all night. In my head I knew she was going to cry all night, but I tried to make her feel like she wouldn't. We did some breathing and went back out.

After dinner her birthday cake comes out and her then-bf is already on his knee next to her. She's very drunk at this point. It takes her a minute or 2 to read the cake that says "will you marry me" and she started freaking out. She then looked over at him and immediately started crying! She of course said yes, there were lots of cheers and all the cameras were out.

The ring is beautiful. The main stone was his paternal grandmothers. They're getting it resized today.

It was seriously awesome to be a part of it, I can't wait until her wedding!

  • Sounds like a wonderful night!

I wouldn't have wanted to be "very drunk" for my proposal, though. Otherwise sounds fabulous!

  • How exciting!

And I was "very drunk" when I was propsed to, because we had been out for a fun night on his birthday. So?

I agree, but as long as she had no issue with being proposed to while drunk and in front of a crowd and on her birthday, then good for her.

Yeah, but BrandNewJ couldn't exactly tell her to stop drinking without giving something away.
  • We were out celebrating her birthday, so everyone had a cocktail or 2 or 3. Once it actually happened and the tears started it seemed like she sobered up quick. After dinner we went to party at his parents house where more alcohol was flowing. No one was sloppy, her included, but I would still label her as "very drunk". It was really wonderful. I'm very happy for her.

  • "Drunk on happiness" ;-P

Very happy for you and your friend. It sounds like she has a very loving fiance. What a cool experience to be part of!

BrandNewJ, I hope your neck feels better soon.

Then happy I, that love and am beloved

  • FI proposed at a surprise party for me too, and he was freaking out that I would get hammered before he got up the nerve to propose. Fortunately I was too busy talking to people to have more than two glasses of champagne but to this day I can't believe he screwed up planning in that major way, haha. Literally any other party I've ever been to with that much sparkling wine available would have had me a bottle deep in about ten minutes, so I must have a sixth sense about what was coming or something, haha.
