Veil Suggestions - Sottero and Midgley Viera Light Gold

Hello Everyone!

My big day is on May 15, 2015 so I am hoping for some suggestions on a veil. I purchased the strapless 2014 Sottero and Midgley VIera dress in light gold seen here: http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?style=4SS057 and I am adding a crystal belt to accentuate my waist.

My question is: I am a little confused about the length of veil that would suit this dress. I am going to get a champagne veil custom made, but I am not sure about the length or finishing trim that I would like. I am wearing my hair up in a bun, and would like the veil to clip to the bottom of the veil. The ceremony is going to be at an historic estate, so I do not need a cathedral length, as it would be too much. I am considering elbow, fingertip, or waltz length at this time. Should I ad beading? Lace? Help!

Thank you!

  • I'd go waltz length with a beaded edge. Ending where the skirt stats to flare would be a nice complement, while anything shorter would compete with the belt.

  • I tried on that dress and loved it. They kept putting me in cathedral length veils with a tiny but of sparkle on the edging when I tried it, and the similar dresses on. Another option is not to do gold, but a shimmery ivory veil. My dress is also gold/champagne and a similar style to your dress. The gold/ champagne veil was just too much gold and looked a little off. But the shimmery ivory veil was perfect, and matched the ivory lace, really making the lace "pop" more.
  • I love the Viera dress.  I got the call yesterday that mine came in (5 long months of waiting!) and had to go try it on!  If you don't mind me asking, can you post a picture of the belt you are going to wear?  I'm thinking of adding one as well, but would love to see what you are going with.  As for the veil, I agree in keeping it a bit shorter, especially if you are wearing a belt.  They gave me one to try on last night that was ivory with lace trim.  It was surprisingly very pretty and didn't compete with the dress.  Good luck!
  • I had a Maggie Sottero white lace over pale gold, and know others who did.

I would really advise against the champagne with pale gold and ivory or white lace. The nonshiny netting looks dull and dirty and unmatching.
Use ivory net for the veil that is lighter in color than the dress ivory, more nearly white. When you put it on a veil should be a nearly transparent glow lighter than the dress. Tiny shiny gold beading or seed pearls , possibly mixed with clear sparkly crystals, go on a lower edge to keep the veil from bouncing up with the slightest breeze or movement, and prevents messing up your hair. A light spattering of gold shiny and clear sparkly beads or crystal above the bottom, in a pattern or simply scattered, will provide the color match you tried to get with the champagne veil lace, but will be light and ethereal. This beadwork does not need to match the belt, but will call attention to it, two accessories which call attention to each other but do not overpower the dress like champagne veiling.

A full length will compete with the gown hem length, and elbow length with the belt, not good choices. To emphasize the long and tall, spare and sexy line of the dress with a romantic softness of floaty veil, eye catching contrast, and still show off the belt bling, go for waltz length .
