Outdoor Ceremony in October???

Hey ladies!
Am I crazy to try and plan an outdoor ceremony for October 26th? I already have the venue for our reception, Gale Woods Farm, so even if the weather is horrible we could do it inside.  I just always had my heart set on an outdoors fall wedding...  Any advice? (I probably have a tent available through family members too)
Thanks!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony in October???

  • Day or evening?  If it's daytime you'd probably be ok, but evenings in October get pretty darn chilly.  If your primary concern is the comfort of your guests (and it should be) you should do the ceremony indoors.  You can always do photos outside.
  • I think if it's short it might be ok. The weather is so unpredictable in this state so it's hard to say. There could be a blizzard or nice sunny weather, who knows! I think since you have a backup plan in place I'd plan on it and then see how the weather is. Hope it works out!

I think that's late enough that I wouldn't do it. Even if it was nice during the day, by 6 it would be getting dark and chilly.

  • I think you'd be taking a huge risk by doing it outside that late. Make sure you have an inside backup plan :-)

This.  It snowed during our cocktail hour at 6 pm on October 9th.
  • The sun sets at 6:13 pm on October 26, so your ceremony is going to be pretty dark if you choose to hold it outside. Not to mention the chill in the air as the sun is going down. Personally, I wouldn't risk doing an outdoor wedding that late in October.

  • I attended a wedding there in June 2010. It was so miserably hot because they don't have air conditioning in the reception area and the outdoor ceremony area gets full sun, at least at that time of the year. So I think an October wedding at that location would be really nice. The indoor area seems plenty big to have the ceremony in there and reset it for the reception if needed. I don't think you would need a tent. Maybe if you could put it up against the barn it would be nice for a cocktail hour though.
  • Go after what you want!!  I am doing outdoor ceremony and reception Oct 6th!  At the end of the day if you are married and happy that is all that matters, if mother nature throws a wrench into your plans you will just laugh about it down the road.
