Flowers

I am not a big flower fan.  The groom is.  I want to save money on flowers because we will have to get some.  What are some good ideas for that?  I was thinking having them carry one flower or going to a grocery store.

Re: Flowers

  • Fake flowers, one single flower, Costco flowers (you can get great deals on those).

  • The only thing with getting them from a grocery store is that you do take a risk of not getting a specific color unless you can talk to the person who orders the flowers and basically order what you want.

  • Don't do fake flowers.  They look fake and cheap.  Look for things with large blossoms.  One hydrangea stem can take up a lot of space.  Then your bouquet could be a couple of them.  The grocer a block from my work sells hydrangeas for $5 per stem.

Or, look for things with an artistic or modern clean look.  Like a single calla lily.

  • In addition to PPs recommendations, go with in-season flowers. They tend to be cheaper than flowers that are out of season that need to be ordered and imported.

  • I like the hydrenga idea. The wedding will be in fall.  I don't know what season flowers are in and out of.  I do want either green or red flowers as the wedding colors are red, green and brown.

  • We are doing all baby's breath which is very inexpensive and simple and timeless IMO.  Search on pinterest "baby's breath wedding" and you'll see a lot of examples of it.
  • I, too, am doing baby's breath for my centerpiences.  I've been buying blue glass vases at Goodwill for a few months.  (They've averaged about $2 a piece.)  They are all different shapes and sizes, which I think will add, um, character, lol?  I dunno.

Like the PP said, baby's breath is inexpensive and timeless.  Good luck!
  • Love the baby's breath and love the hydrangeas.  I have used both for centerpieces at different events and the effect is very romantic.  Check out some you tube videos for the hydrangea arranging, though.  They offer hints at how to trim so the flowers last longer.
