Anyone know the TABC rules?

I am hosting about 130 people for my wedding and hoping to have a beer/wine reception ... I'd love for it to just be a party where people can grab what they want. No liquor, no mixing, all BYOB. My venue is not licensed with TABC and has a BYOB alcohol policy.

A. Is it required by law to have a TABC certified bartender present?
B. Is it required by law to have security present?

Bride on a budget and trying to cut ancillary costs .... but obviously don't want to do anything illegal :)

My husband is TABC certified and I asked him. If you have a bartender, he must be TABC certified. You are not required by law to have security present. Hope that helps.

From my understanding in Texas guests can not be "Self Served".  you have to have someone serving them.  Check with your venue to see what their insurance covers.  It might be a liability for them if you let guests serve themselves.

You do have to have a TABC certified bartender but security is usually a requirement of the venue along with an extra deposit.
