Champagne bridal gown and blue tux?

My gown is champagne.  I'd like my groom to be in a dark blue tux... what color should his shirt be?!? shoes? etc?

Re: Champagne bridal gown and blue tux?

  • Do you mean a suit? Tuxes usually only come in black. If you're wanting blue tuxes and your groom and groomsmen can find them and want to rent them, by all means, but I do think coloured tuxes tend to look straight out of the 70s.

A dark blue suit, whether two or three piece (with the vest) looks good with virtually any colour, though I think white is the most classic and formal looking, if that's what you're going for. My FI wears his with dark brown shoes for work, normally, but I've seen men wear black if it's more blue than navy.

  • Midnight blue and charcoal grey are around again in tuxes so dark in shade they look classic. They have that hint of color nice in pictures but not the awful bright blue tuxes so fifties and seventies.

A couple of bridal dress shops I have been going to have a few dressed male manikins so you can decide shirt colors and suit or tux colors. Unless they are in a spotlight or sunlight they look sharp and dark. They surprised me because except for grey morning clothes, I am not a fan of colored tuxes, only the less formal colored suits.

  • Tuxedos are BLACK.  If your FI wants to wear navy blue, he should wear a navy suit, white dress shirt and long tie.  It is a classic look.

  • Black tie formality includes either black or midnight blue, and has for over 120 years.

Currently popular grey, navy, white full tux, and brown are more recent. The baby blue of the fifties and seventies, newer still.

Navy tuxes are definitely a thing.

I like the way this JCrew model is styled with a white shirt and a black tie.  They also paired it with black shoes.

I know the old rule was black and blue don't go together but I think it looks very nice.  Brown looks too informal IMO.

  • I think black and many blues look sharp together.
