Find one that you love and that looks great on you.  The dress I thought I would love didn't look great on, found another dress that looked great on.  (Took my FMIL dress shopping with me, then called my fiancee for his opinion) and we all agreed on said dress.

Whatever you want to wear.  You can go traditional with an actual wedding gown, or go with evening wear, or even a bridesmaid dress.  Have fun shopping!

I asked the same as you......what is appropiate.....

Appropiate is what makes you feel like a bride.....

I never thought I would ever wear a bridal gown again...and thats what I bought for my weddng next month and I am 47.....

Have a wondeful time shoping for your 'dress'  !!

I will be 40 yrs and 9 months when I get married - I am wearing a beautiful strapless gown with a corset back!  While it was on my list of try-ons, it was definitely not the one I thought I would look the best in.  I feel like a lovely bride when I have it on, and that is all that matters.  Have some fun with the dress shopping experience.  You are the bride!

NotFroofy was 41, and I was 56, when we got married.  It was her first wedding, but my second.  And we both wore long ivory wedding dresses, veils with blushers, and even opera gloves.  Wear what makes you feel beautiful, and don't worry about "appropriate."

Adding my ditto. I am 40; I tried on a slinky sheath dress with a low back and I got a standing ovation from every girl in the salon when I came out (no one having a clue I was 10 to 20 years older than them all!!). I bought it.

Woo hoo!  Good for you.  I had a similar, though not identical, experience when I came out of the dressing room in my dress.  The sales lady (whom I've known for years) actually gasped and smiled very widely.  Yup!  I bought it ... no questions asked.  Now ... its on to the shoes.  LOL!

    Hi everybody!

I'll be 42 by my wedding date and I envision myself in a slinky ivory colored dress, dipped pretty low in the back.  I haven't tried one on yet, but in my minds eye that's how i see it and I envision my FI having a difficult time focusing on the ceremony.

I will be 45 when we get married, and I opted for a 50s style, tea length ivory dress.  It is very "bridal" but also understated.  I am wearing my hair up in a french twist secured with pearl pins in lieu of a veil.  My shoes are 4" heels that are AMAZING!

I believe you should do what you are comfortable with and what makes you feel like a beautiful bride.
