our new life together
as we say “I do”

Picnic, games and merriment to follow

Re: invitation wording check

  • The wedding invitation is a simple note from the hosts to the guests, telling them who, what, when and where - not why.  Your wedding plans sound delightful, but I'm afraid your wording needs work.
You should never describe the food or entertainment at your wedding reception, regardless of where it is held.
Here is traditional wording for your wedding:

    Together with their families

    Brides First middle last
    and
    Grooms first middle last

request the pleasure of your company
as they are united in marriage

    Saturday, the twentieth of June
    two thousand fifteen
    at one o'clock
    County park Enclosed Shelter
    City, State  (no zip)

    Reception to follow

Wedding invitations are traditionally written in the third person.  The formality of your wedding is indicated by the style of your invitation, not the wording.  Choose an invitation with lots of color and outdoor designs.   The phrase "celebrate our new life together" does not make it clear that you are inviting people to a wedding.  It could be a vow renewal.

My sister was married in a city park, much like you are planning.  It was a wonderful wedding!
