Hello! I am trying to come up with a creative (or any) hashtag for my June wedding. My groom's last name is Wiley and my current last name is Norris. I really need to get this figured out before the first shower. I would appreciate any help!
I absolutely would have done #wileywedding or #wileywedding2015, but both have been widely used unfortunately
So? Nobody can call dibs on a hashtag. Just use one, and any pictures posted on the day of your wedding are obviously going to be yours. And if, by chance, they aren't? I'm pretty sure you will know. Just ignore those ones.

This is true, but sharing a hashtag with another wedding entirely defeats the purpose of having a wedding hashtag. The point is that if you and your guests all use it to post photos and statuses from the wedding, it's extremely easy to access and compile them all at once and recap afterwards. That doesn't work quite as well when 1/2 of the photos are from some other random person's wedding.

How is it hard? Just ignore all of the ones posted before your wedding date. That seems pretty damn easy to me...
I'll give you the same advice, verbatim, I gave my best friend when she texted me to ask about wedding hashtag ideas. I think they're kind of silly, and if you choose something cutesy or creative, most people won't remember it when they are trying to post. Go simple. #WileyWeddingDate or #WileyWedding (and just ignore those from not around your date) are good options. Or try #WileyYourlastname.

Im facing a similar dilemma. I am wanting #HammondsGetHitched which is taken. I want one of our own that will only show our pictures. Maybe switch it around to #HitchTheHammonds ? What do yall think? Our names are Susan and Austin. #SusanandAustin isnt taken either.
I would just search for different ideas on insta to make sure theyre not taken. Maybe #WileyWedding2015 or #WileyWedding2k15 ?

You'll just have to find someone with a more unique name to marry. Hashtags are VERY IMPORTANT. It's also VERY HARD to just make one unique by slapping your wedding date onto the end of it.
Normally I really don't like cutesy hashtags at all. Ditto everything Lolo just said. Put your wedding date on the end of it, etc. keep it simple, etc.
#HappilyEverHammond could be cool.

You could use wileywedding, but also include the place. For example, toronto airport code is yyz, so could be wileywedingyyz or whatever. Im not partial to dates because that gets too long, but at least everyone (should) know the date, not everyone will understand what the random letters mean. Or area codes. Just some other thoughts for you.

I feel like this could be a tv show. Getting hitched with the hammonds!
I don't think you can find a completely unique #hashtag unless y'all are the only ones with those last names ever.
I don't see the importance or necessity for a #hashtag. My little brother's girlfriend made one for us for her own pictures (which was #smittenforgriffin) and everyone else just tagged us.
A couple I know did "#GroomNameWedsBrideName" i.e.: "#BobWedsSally". I didn't love that, but it might not be used. As others have suggested, you could try #WileyNorrisWedding or #WNWedding or #WiWedding. It should definitely be something that makes common sense and is easy to remember, though. Otherwise people just won't use it, and it sounds like you're pretty keen on seeing those pics.

For my friends who have used them in the past, they've used them for all pre-wedding parties too (showers, bachelorette, rehearsal, etc.), so it's not necessarily that simple.

Uh, what? No. it totally is. Once the wedding is over, they have likely stopped using it; therefore, most, if not all of the pictures from the time that you start using it are yours. If a few that aren't yours sneak in there, ignore them. I don't understand how this is hard?
I think you guys are WAY over-complicating this. Way too many fucks given.
And really, what if you somehow figure one out that hasn't been used yet... what's to stop someone else from starting to use it?

I think some of the photo-aggregator services require the hashtag to be unique.
