XP: Tuxes etc. [a post from my Fi]

Fi is dictating this, but he swears he's not really posting on TK.  Really.  He's totally not posting.

Where besides Men's Wearhouse is worth a stop?  Fi and his sister are probably going tux shopping this weekend.  He wants something very classic, black and white.  He has a fairly large party (7 GMs plus dads).

What prices are reasonable?  How far in advance should you order your tux?

Any suggestions for a Best Woman's attire?  We are thinking of just asking her to wear any long black dress, and make her a bouquet of the same flowers that will be in the mens' boutonnieres.  Calla lilies.

Thanks ladies.

Just check the yellow paqes.   Men's Wearhouse is the largest chain store, but there are many other places to rent tuxedos.

I like the idea of a black dress for the lady.

  • We had really good luck with a little local suit shop, actually. You might want to try a local place to compare it to the big chain place (prices, selection, what they can offer in terms of service, etc).

We were told by the owner to order the suits (we're not doing tuxes but it would be the same timeline either way) about 2 months before the wedding. However, the wedding is the beginning of May, and 2 months before that is the middle of the chaos of prom season (early March till beginning of May, around here). The owner said it would be a huge mistake to try to order in the middle of prom season just because of how busy they are.

So FI is going back to buy his suit sometime this month, and we told the guys if they want to rent from this place, to do it by the end of the month.

  • We used Men's Warehouse mainly because H had GMs coming from all over the country so it was just easy for everyone to go to their closest Men's Warehouse where they lived.

Then there is Jos. A Banks.  Also check with your local bridal salons because many times they are partnered with companies who rent/sell tuxes.
