Doomed Groom

A local radio station is doing a Valentine's Day contest they are calling "Doomed Groom". For a "dream destination wedding" a groom is handcuffed to his FMIL 24/7 for 7 days. So many things bother me about this, including the fact that I would rather pay for a destination wedding myself than be handcuffed to DH or my mother for 7 days. I can't imagine a lot of people signing up for this. And I really can't imagine this going beyond 24 hours unless there is some un-cuffing for bathroom breaks. Would you sign up?

Re: Doomed Groom

  • Eh it doesn't sound that bad. I'd probably do worse for less haha. I think you'll be surprised with the number of people that will sign up!

  • There is not enough nope in the world to cover my feelings on this. I adore my MIL, and we lived with her and FIL for almost a year before the wedding, but I can not imagine being cuffed to her 24/7 for 7 days. No way would I sign up for that.

I also don't think that DH, MIL, or my mom would agree to it.

  • I couldn't do that with my own mother (whom I get along well with) and certainly not my mother in law. They'd drive me crazy.

FI would be no problem if we didn't have to work. He's a Velcro guy anyway and we already spend virtually all our time except for at work together anyway. A week would be easy if we had time off.

  • OK I love my mother to death, but I DON'T want to be handcuffed to her for a week. There is no way my FI would do this.

  • Yeah, LOL at this. Just one big, fat NOPE from me.

Not enough money in the world for this. And just to add- I (generally) like my MIL. But one of us would not survive that week of being chained together.

  • I think they usually make exceptions for bathroom/showering. At least the similar ones I've seen do.

FI and my mom get along great so I think they would both be willing, but no chance in hell will she be handcuffed to him for 7 days.

  • I wouldn't even want to be handcuffed to Wifey for that long. And I like her. A lot. But I need my fucking space.
  • I wouldn't want to be handcuffed to ANYONE for 7 days. If only because then they'd know just how often I actually pee.

I hope so. I couldn't find the contest rules so I'm not sure. That seems like a vital piece of information people would want before signing up.

  • There is no way in hell I would want to be cuffed to FMIL 24/7. I would rather take out loans, or beg on the street corner to pay for the "dream destination wedding" before doing that.

Her texts are more than enough for me thankyouverymuch.

  • Sort of the threat of someone dying, I'm not wiling to be handcuffed to anyone 24/7 for 7 days.

  • The selected Doomed Groom and his future mother in law will be handcuffed at the wrist on the morning of February 13, 2015 between the hour of 8:00am and 9:00am must remain handcuffed together for a period of one week – until the morning of February 20, 2015 between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00am.
3.2 The Doomed Groom and future mother in law must be able to live for the duration of that week in a hotel room provided by the station and will have a 24 hour monitor to ensure their safety as well as compliance with the conditions set out in these rules.
3.3 The Doomed Groom and mother in law will be given one timed 10 minute break from the handcuffs every 3.5 hours. If the contestants remove themselves from the handcuffs at any other time or fail to get the handcuffs secured by the end of the mandated breaks, they will be disqualified from the competition.

    They can pee in privacy!

  • I would rather roll around naked on a bed of broken glass and rusty nails. NOOOOOPPPPPPEEEEE.
  • What if you have to pee more often than once every 3.5 hours? And what if it takes you like 20 minutes to take a dump?

  • Fi and I love each other's families. I'd do it. :)

I had a LOT of free time at work today.

  • I can just see my FI agreeing to it if my mom made him food. He loves my moms cooking. And she would probably just be happy cooking for 24 hours for everyone involved.

  • I really wouldn't want a destination wedding that bad.
  • FI and my mom get along great.

I see my momma being more the issue here. She would have to ensure her daily cocktail wouldn't be interrupted.

  • As much as I love my mom, H and I both know she is a little crazy. He would not survive for a whole week with her. And the same with MIL, I could never be handcuffed to her even though I love her.

Honestly, I couldn't be handcuffed to anyone without going crazy.

I'd be more annoyed at having to stay in a hotel room for 7 days than being handcuffed to someone for that time.

  • I didn't want a DW in the first place, definitely not that badly!

My late MIL was a chain smoker and I have breathing issues. Would never have worked.
