Wedding Party

Indian wedding party

Hi y'all! Both my fiancee and I are of Indian descent and are having a somewhat traditional Indian ceremony. We are still having bridesmaids and groomsmen and want them to wear matching saris and sherwanis. Do any of you have any suggestions as to where I can order many of the same outfit? I don't have enough vacation time to go to India for the shopping (saving up for the wedding!). Thanks!!!

Re: Indian wedding party

  • My best friend is Indian (her mother just left for India yesterday actually) and I know they usually buy most of their saris there. But I believe there's also a local place in our county that they buy from. Where are you located? Can you maybe find a B&M store to purchase, rather than online?
  • First you need to get everyone's budget (privately) for attire, then go with the lowest budget. That will dictate what stores you can afford to shop at. Unless you're planning to purchase their attire - I know that can be common in the Indian culture when the bride goes to India to get all her stuff.

Since Indian weddings are super colorful, what if you just took them all to a physical store (use google) and let them pick whatever they wanted?

I like this idea. Why can't the fabric have the same print or accent colors and let them pick different colors?
  • Thanks, I appreciate the input!! I live in LA and there are Indian stores here but they tend to be pricey. I will be buying the saris for my bridesmaids so ideally a store based in India with a website and shipping abilities would be ideal. I am warming to the idea of having similar but not exactly the same. Less stress and more personality that way =)
  • I m Indian, my fiancé American Catholic but we are having a secular wedding in South Dakota, no religious stuff but the attire and theme is Indian. You can imagine the task of getting Indian outfits when there's no such stores around here! I bought my lehenga and his sherwani from Devon Ave in Chicago, it was probably more expensive than what it would cost in India but we love it, and I ordered our bridesmaid sarees and groomsmen kurtas on www.utsavfashion.com - They have a good collection, but sometimes are really slow in sending the shipments. And they messed up the flower girl outfits but did exchange them later. I am having a tough time getting shoes, as their website "US sizes" are way off.
  • Shoot, if you lived in the Pacific Northwest I would tell you to go to Vancouver BC. There is a neighborhood that has a ton of Indian fabric and clothing stores for wholesale prices. If you know anyone who lives near there, they might be able to scout for you.
