XP: Tuxes etc.

Where besides Men's Wearhouse is worth a stop?  Fi and his sister are probably going tux shopping this weekend.  He wants something very classic, black and white.  He has a fairly large party (7 GMs plus dads).  We live in Jersey City but we have a car and can drive within reason.

What prices are reasonable?  How far in advance should you order your tux?

Any suggestions for a Best Woman's attire?  We are thinking of just asking her to wear any long black dress, and make her a bouquet of the same flowers that will be in the mens' boutonnieres.  Calla lilies.

Thanks ladies.

  • We found Men's Warehouse to be our best option since 1 of the Groomsmen lives in CA.  Their prices are pretty reasonable and with 5 other tuxes rented FI gets his tux free or $500 towards a suit for him to keep.

We chose Vera Wang Black tuxedo for all the guys with a black vest and euro tie for FI and blush vest and euro tie for the groomsmen.  Dad's are doing black vest with a bow tie.

The cost is $187 including shoes, cufflinks and pocket squares.  We looked at some smaller tuxedo places and they either had dated selections or were more expensive once you added everything in.
  • Thanks @Jen7778!  And actually I should have been more clear-- we are definitely looking at MW.  Fi just wants at least one other option in addition to that.

  • Every time we've had to rent tuxes, we've done it through Dante. Of course, it works well for us because our local suit shop (yea, we have a place that makes suits) does Dante rentals. Jos A Bank also does tux rentals.

  • We actually went to the Tux Shop in Bayonne.  Great prices and they do everything on site.  Unlike Men's Warehouse and Jos A Bank, you can try on all of the tuxes that are there to get a feel for what you like.  At MW and JAB, you pick from a catalog and try on when it arrives.

  • We used Hollywood Tuxedo in Kenilworth.  If I remember correctly the guys paid $150 for their tuxes.  We had 6 adult groomsmen plus my dad.  All of our guys were big, tall, or both and everything fit perfect the first time. We got the grooms tux for free.  I believe the ring bearer's tux was $100.

They were really helpful and patient with us.

We used Men's Warehouse.  Pretty sure we went in and picked out the tuxes about 4 months before the wedding.  I *think* the guys then had to be fitted by 3 weeks before the wedding?  Don't quote me on that, I can't remember for sure.
  • Men's Warehouse is having a promotion right now.  It is $40 off each tux and the grooms is free with the rental of 5 other tuxes....its something to look into and the promo goes until August we jsut got the flyer yesterday.
  • Biltmore Tuxedos in Ridgewood, NJ. Family owned and exceptional service!
