These are a Few of My Favorite Things

Whenever I clean my house it gives me an opportunity to look at the things we have and to "appreciate" them.

What are the more "random" or "non- big ticket" (i.e. not your flat screen TV) things in your house that you love?

From the living room: my stuffed owl, Owlthello;
from the dining room: the "old fashioned" all-in-one media center (cd, tape, record player, and radio);
from my kitchen: retro soup ladel;
from the bedroom: my "face" glasses holder;
from the bathroom: the shower curtain covered in different mustache types.

Share pics if you can... mobile is being awful for me today though.

Re: These are a Few of My Favorite Things

  • I always appreciate cleaning our dining room because that's where most of our photos and FI's mother's piano is. It's really nice to see all those things nice and clean and organized. Really makes it feel like home :)
  • My favorite stuff in my house:
    My ridiculously huge collection of books that takes up an unreasonable amount of space (and most of my books are still at my parents' house)

    My paintings that are hanging all over our living room

    Some random little things I've collected from other countries/vacations/road trips (a tile from Portugal, a Native American arrow from Wyoming, etc)

    The green antique china hutch in our kitchen that we use to hold all our fancy bar glasses

    The dresser in my bedroom that I inherited from my grandma-- she had impeccable taste so it's really beautiful, and it's huge

    I'm too lazy to go around and take pictures lol. I'm sorry!

  • The Indian painting in our living room. It's the only thing we saved from the fire - and even it got damaged; it had to be reframed.

    My teddy bear, who was not living at home. He's been with me since I was four months old and he is no longer teddy-bear shaped.

    My owl that FI gave me for Christmas this year, and the necklace he gave me when he proposed.

    This is stupid - but I collect hoodies from everywhere we go. The only place I didn't buy a hoodie from is London, and I bought a Beatles sweatshirt there instead. I lost the Hawaii one and a couple of NYC ones (stupid freaking fire) but I love the ones I still have.

    Picture of the painting's attached. It appears to be messing up per my usual.

    My cabinet of glass paperweights.  Over the years, there have been many that were gifts.

    My harpsichord.  DH built it for me (Zuckermann) for our first wedding anniversary, but it took him four years to complete.

  • My pictures. They are all over the house and when ever I am dusting I love looking at them.

    Most are from our various trips to wonderful places. So looking at them takes me back to the trip. It is like when I pull out the Christmas ornaments. I get very sentimental over some of them when I put them up and take them down.

    My overly large collection of books. Most of them are still in boxes.

    The quilt Nana made us that stays on the bed.

    The blue lacquer price with dragons on it that I got while I was living in Japan. It hangs above the bed.

    Anniversary
  • I'm too lazy and my house is too messy right now to take pictures.

    My great-great-grandmother's dresser.  It's absolutely gorgeous, with a marble top.  Complete with waterline mark from Hurricane Sandy.  I'm going to have it refinished sometime soon when budget allows.

    My grandmother's vanity, that my mother had in her room as a little girl and I had in my room as a little girl.  Also with a waterline courtesy of Sandy.

    The rocking chair my grandmother rocked my mother in, then my mother rocked me and my sister in.  With... you guessed it.  A waterline.

    The scrapbook a friend made me for Christmas in freshman year of college.  We have lost touch since then but I love looking at the photos of that time.  She really put effort into it and it's super sweet.

    Our T-Rex tea strainer.  I'm not 100% sure where it came from but he's been hanging from the stove hood for years, through at least one move.

    Tomorrow if I get home from work at a reasonable time, I will take some pictures.  That dresser is out of this world and it's going to look great once it gets ton TLC.

    I love the phone on your table. My fiance would drool over that globe- he loves maps, globes, etc. Gorgeous photo too and your signature board is so cute!

    Show off your owls and I'll show mine tonight if I can! I loved them before they became a thing and I finally had to impose a "no more owl gifts" rule- although my fiance broke it this year and got me a small one.
  • @climbingbride I love all of yours!

  • My entertainment stand shelf above the TV. Vacation central- green lions from China, Saki set from Japan, bowls from Peru, turtle from Jamaica, skull from Mexico.

    My dining room map of the world. It's 5 feet wide.

    My dried wedding bouquet.

    Woops I messed up your name, I forget it's wife now haha. Thanks! It's "meant" for a classroom but I don't care :)

  • I love the Donald and Daisy sutffed animals that I got from Disney a few years ago because they are mine and H's favorite characters.

    I love H's silver champagne bucket trophy that was his bio-grandmother's from winning a gold tournament. We used it as the centerpiece on our table at the reception.

    My dresser that my great grandfather built in the late 1800's. It is beautiful.

    H's dresser his grandpa built him when he was born.

    My cooking utensil holder. It is a piece of pottery my dad used in his kitchen ever since I can remeber and he gave it to me pretty recently.
