Timeline - waxes and weddings

I want to get my eyebrows waxed and a bikini wax before the wedding, and we are leaving for the honeymoon exactly 1 week after the wedding.  Honeymoon lasts 7 days.

When should I schedule the waxes?  I was thinking 1 week before the wedding because I have sensitive skin and it sometimes gets red after a wax, but I want to make sure it totally lasts through the honeymoon.  Waxes last over 3 weeks, right?  Haha I've had to resort to other means for quite awhile because waxes are so damn expensive, and now I can't remember

Re: Timeline - waxes and weddings

  • For your eyebrows, I'd go at least a week (or up to two weeks) before the wedding, depending on how your skin reacts.

For the bikini wax, I'd schedule that separately and go closer to the wedding or even right after, because no one is gonna see you in a bikini on your wedding day, but you want it to last through the honeymoon.

Last time I got a bikini wax the redness went away within hours and it lasted a few weeks, but even your own skin can be different because when I get my legs waxed they stay red for about 2 days.

  • My bikini waxes typically last really well for 2 weeks, then I get some stray hairs the third week. I think it depends on how your skin reacts to it. I got mine waxed the day before the wedding.

I haven't gotten my eyebrows waxed in 1 million years, but I would make sure you don't look puffy the day of- so maybe 4 or 5 days before?

  • If you don't normally wax, then you need to start going regularly now. At least for your bikini line. I wouldn't want my first wax to be right before my wedding night....I've been going regularly for two years and I still feel pretty sensitive the first day or two after I get waxed (FTR I do get a full Brazilian though). For your bikini line, I'd plan it to be at least 2 days before the wedding, that way any sensitivity has a chance to recede and you'll still get the effects of the wax for your HM.

Normal waxes for me - I go about about 7 or 8 weeks in between waxes. The hair stairs to become noticeable around 4 weeks, and it's long enough by week 7 or 8 to get a wax again.

  • Have you ever tried getting your eyebrows threaded? It doesn't yank the skin like waxing does, so the redness fades quickly.

Ironically, because the threading takes longer my skin gets more pissed off.

Like @labro I wouldn't wait till the day before, but I too get full brazilian. I am getting mine done a week before and I have my HM 3 days after for a week. I'm sensitive/red for about 3 days. You will always have a few hairs that get ripped instead of a clean removal, so bring tweezers on your trip.

I think it makes a difference what kind of wax you use. I use the hard wax from European Wax Centers; it's definitely not as painful and when I get an eyebrow the redness fades within 24 hours (and i have sensitive skin too). I would do it a week before in case any hairs are too short to pull or a couple get ripped and you can tweeze them yourself.

  • If your skin is sensitive, absolutely do not go the day before the wedding to get your bikini waxed.  I would do it about 3 days before to give yourself time to let the redness go down.  If you start going now it will be much easier for you to handle come time of the wedding, especially if you have sensitive skin.  Taking a motrin about 30 minutes before will help with some of the pain and swelling. Don't take a hot hot shower for 24 hours after you get it done.

I second eye brow threading.  It's cheaper and I think it's way less painful than waxing (it still hurts a little, obviously).  I do think it's probably better for sensitive skin though, so if you're a normal waxer, I'd at least give it a try.

    Why not a hot shower?

  • I used to get my eyebrows threaded, but a few times they abraded my skin so I had a red scab for a week or so.

  • I would recommend threading (because it doesn't rip a layer of your skin off, every time I got mine waxed I was scabbed for a week) but since you said it irritates your skin worse, then nevermind haha. I would do it at least 3 days before.

  • I would get your eyebrows waxed 3-4 days before your wedding. Is this your first time getting a bikini wax? If so, your hair will grow in faster vs if you have been getting regular waxes, so I would go for your bikini wax after your wedding 2-3 days before your honeymoon.

Definitely not my first, but it's been awhile and I just can't remember how long it took for hair to grow back

I've been told this by like three different estheticians.  Something about your pores being more open and sensitive after getting waxed.  Cooler water is supposed to be more soothing and will help close up the pores.  Or at least that's what they told me.  I do know the one time I decided to buck the system and take my usual crazy hot shower right after getting waxed I totally regretted it.  It made me super red for a a couple days and then I broke out where I had been waxed. That might just be me though.

ETA: I don't mean you have to take a cold shower, just not a scalding one.

Oh man, I bet it's like taking a super hot shower with a sunburn! Ouch!!!

I have sensitive skin too, but haven't usually had a problem with redness more than a day after waxing. That way, you have a couple days as a buffer. I probably wouldn't go a whole week since you're trying to stay smooth for the HM too.

It will grow back quickly because your hair grows in patterns and during the first few waxes, your hair pattern isn't in sync. I would still go 2 days before honeymoon

OP, I know you said you've gotten waxes before, but a word of caution to anyone else considering getting their first bikini wax before the wedding - DO IT WAY IN ADVANCE just in case you have an allergy to the wax. I have some friends with waxing horror stories from their first time. Don't do that to yourself the week of your wedding and honeymoon. *endPSA*
