I think I screwed up the invitations...

For menu options, do you go into details about the protein choices or just say what they are?

Like, we put chicken or roast beef instead of chicken stuffed with mushrooms and rice or roast beef with Crown jus.

Is that okay? If not, how do I fix it?

Re: I think I screwed up the invitations...

  • Most of the time, I just see which protein is available to eat.  While its nice to put the whole entree description down, its not done very often.

If you have one, you can always add in more detailed entree descriptions on your wedding website.

  • Our RSVP cards just said chicken, fish, or vegetarian. We spelled out the full details of what was in each dish on a plain paper insert and on the wedding website. A lot of people said they appreciated knowing the full details because some didn't like/were allergic to mushrooms, some had pregnancy-related avoidances, etc.

  • What PP said.  Rarely do the invites I get go into detail about what is being served/what the food choices are.

  • I've never seen a detailed description of the meal choices with the invites.

  • I don't think I've seen invites that go into detail other than chicken, fish, beef, vegetarian, etc. I agree with PP about adding the details to your wedding website (if you have one).

I like this idea.  I've only seen basic protein listed on the RSVP, so I don't think you did anything wrong.  But, an insert with more detail and/or more detail on website may be helpful.  For me, I may order the chicken, but I don't eat mushrooms, so I'd be disappointed to find out my dinner was inedible (or I'd pick around the stuffing portion and eat whatever untainted chicken I could).

  • Thanks guys :)  I have never recieved a wedding invitation before so I don't know the norm.
  • If it helps, nothing will ever top the mistake on mine; meal options were listed as:

    Beef
    Chicken
    Children

Yup, I served kids on platters.

This will never stop making me laugh.

I'm laughing too haha sorry Chippy
  • I've also seen simplified versions, like:

    - Prime Rib
    - Chicken Marsala
    - Eggplant Parmesan

So, while those aren't detailed, it's more of a description than "Beef, Chicken, Vegetarian".

If I receive an invitation with an entree I'm not familiar with, I Google it to figure out what it is.

I love this. This has to be my favorite invitation story ever.

Ours had the generic names because at the time we ordered them, we hadn't finalized the specific menu items yet, just knew we'd have a chicken, fish, and veg option.

Giving the details in the insert actually saved us money - the veg option sounded so good (wild mushroom strudel with cilantro creme fresh and raspberry reduction; butter poached asparagus), lots of meat-eaters chose it, and that saved us like $10/plate! ;)

I'd prefer something like the above.  Also, IMO, it's nice to have a spot on the RSVP card for people to put if they have any dietary restrictions they have.

Happy to oblige all...I DID consider telling my nieces that this was part of flower girl duties....but between their youth and the absolute inability to tell a joke in both their parents, I knew they would not get my humor and would cry.

PS- dad ordered an arm, hand, and a quarter torso done medium in a demi glace on the rsvp for my folks. He gets it :-D

Yup. And older niece is matter of fact/precise/ smart to the point of major PITA. She would have wailed about how she wouldn't fit in the oven, cooking temps, legal and ethical concerns related to eating humans....honestly I gotta introduce her to zombie flicks in a few years....
