Photographer bailed, PLEASE HELP!!!!

I just got an e-mail from my photographer that she double-booked herself and she can't do my wedding. We're seven months out and I'm so mad at her, I want to punch her in the face. Please, I'll take any input you ladies have as far as a new photographer. I'm going to go cry now.

Oh no! I'm so sorry!

First of all, did you send your photographer a deposit or sign a contract? If you did you need to make sure you get your deposit back and make sure she knows that she's breaking a legal document. And why is she canceling you and not the other bride? ( Not that any bride should be cancelled on. )

It could be a blessing in disguise because obviously she has a horrible work ethic and you wouldn't want to work with her!

Is there a budget your comfortable with or style your looking for?

She was a friend of mine from college, almost ten years! I'm NEVER speaking to her again. I've been asking her for a contract for months and she said she didn't need one. I guess the bright side is that I didn't give her a deposit either, but if I had, she'd be getting sued right now. My wedding date is 10/10/2010 which is pretty much booked for everything right now so I'm ready to cry.

I was just thinking "oh, and she's 10-10" and that's going to be tough, but there are lots of photographers out there.

Island Bride, we now have to find the money for a photography budget. The original chick was a friend, trying to get her portfolio going so she cut us a huge break. I would never expect a professional to accept what we were paying her, my mom offered to pay for a real photog so I don't know where to start as far as budgeting....

For a good professional photographer, who isn't going to bail on you, you'll need your mom to budget at least $2800. Start with a all the coverage you need now, and opt for an album later. You really don't need two photographers if you are having less then 150 people at your wedding. A seasoned professional knows where to be and when to get all those moments, so there is a way to save.

Also, since 10-10-10 is a red hot date, don't expect a huge bargain. It's a date all vendors can book over and over.

And remember, after everything, photo & video is the only thing left. What's more important, some monogramed cocktail napkins that get thrown out or a flat screen TV that will need to be updated in 8 years OR your photographs you will have FOREVER? Photographs are the only things we can remember our relatives by. They are what we will show our kids & grandkids. They are our legacy, so there should be some real value placed on a photographer & videographer.

I agree that after it's all over all we'll have are photos. I have a photobooth coming so that'll be great for candids and stuff. We don't mind paying for quality photos at all, it just really pisses me off that we have to book last minute for a popular date like this. I booked my friend in November, asked her several times for a contract and she said it wasn't necessary. I'm just so frustrated

It really pisses me off. She said that she said yes to another person without knowing the date before she said yes to me, knowing my date right away. "I had no idea they were on the same day!!" she says. She was all casual about it when she wrote back to me, saying that it was going to be a quick fix. Quick fix my ass, every vendor told me "oh, that day is busy...". I'm so mad at her.

Here are a couple more suggestions:

When I was meeting with photographers I really wanted to book Meghan Sepe (I picked my photog because she has a family connection to me). Her pictures are beautiful! She is also in the SMP little black book. If I remeber correctly her package for 8 hours and 2 photographers was $3,500.

Also, Mandy Mayberry's name has come up a few times on this board as an affordable photographer. She seems new so it is more likely that she will be available. The photos on her blog show the creativity and quality of much higher priced photographers.

Your "friend"/photographer sounds like a ditz and i'm sure this kind of unprofessionalism will not take her very far in photoraphy. Maybe all of this will work out and you will end up with a photographer who will leave you with better pictures then you would have had with your former photographer.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, ladies! We met with a few people and we booked Paula Larimer. We loved her work, her prices and her personality! She met with us right at our venue and showed us a big portfolio and examples of her albums, then we did a walk-thru where we all pointed out shots we'd like to have and we really felt like we were collaborating with a true, seasoned, professional! I recommend her highly, just don't even THINK about stealing her from us! j/k. but seriously, don't , I'll cry.

That is so incredibly sad!!

I'm using Travel in Time Photography. I don't know if they are available that day, but they are super nice, amazing photography, and a great price.
