Kate+8

Does anyone watch Kate Plus 8? I haven't watched any of the new episodes, but I used to watch back when I first graduated high school, & then recently I watched all the seasons they had on Netflix. I love the show & I cried like a baby when her & Jon got divorced.

I'd like to hear y'all's opinions on her/the show. I know she can be shrill, obnoxious, & sometimes rude, but I feel the media paints her out to be this horrible mother/person. I'm sure parts of the show are scripted, & they cut & paste scenes together to make them look dramatic & suspenseful, but sometimes I'm just like "oh come on people, she's a (SUCCESSFUL) single mother of 8, let her live." But then I remembered that she signed up to be on a tv show.

How do y'all feel about her putting her children on television? I remember watching one episode when the kids were younger & they were sad when the camera crew left.

Re: Kate+8

  • I think it's all they've ever known, so I don't think it's harmful to them.  I think their father's immature behavior will be more detrimental to them.

I watched the early years, and missed some in the middle, and watch again now.  It was really painful to watch Jon and Kate together.

I think she has a lot of "mother's helpers," so that's kind of annoying that she says she does it all alone.

  • I've tried to watch it twice. It's mega boring. On one she was throwing a birthday and wind blew signs into the pool. Then her bird flew into the cake. That's it. I like most stupid reality shows (including the ones that follow people around as they live) but this was too lame for me.

  • I watched J&K+8 from the beginning and loved it. But Kate is just an awful person. I can't stand to watch her. Jon is pretty despicable too, but at least he's not whoring himself in the front cameras anymore.
  • I think they are both awful people. They signed up for a TV show to make money and have subjected their children to it the whole time. It doesn't matter if their children are used it or not. The fact is, they shouldn't be used to it.

  • I watch for the kids.  Maddy has her mother's super dramatic personality.

  • I cannot stand Kate. Watching her belittle her husband in the old episodes is painful, and in the newer ones she belittles her "friends" the same way. It makes me sad that her children are learning by example that it's okay to speak to people that way. That being said, we do watch it sometimes because we love realty TV.
  • I also wouldn't attribute her success or ability to be a single mother to her parenting skills, but rather to the money she makes by exploiting her kids and having tons of help.

  • That woman is doing some horrible things to those kids. They should be allowed to be children and not props for TV.

Jon's no saint either but at least he's not putting his life in front of TV cameras.

  • i hate her. she is just a awful person. i hated how she treated jon and no her "friends" i refuse to watch it anymore because of how she acts. i saw one episode that was newer and i was disgusted.

I do find her to be incredibly annoying, but I also think the editors trim the show to make her seem like a bad-ish mom.

What makes me most stabby is her appearance. She looks ridiculous as a 40 year old woman parading around as if she were 25 years old. Her clothes, her cosmetic procedures, the hair --- girl, please.

I just feel like she shouldn't have had those kids to begin with. Her having 6 babies was an accident, not a media marketing excuse.

Even when they were first born, before the show, and her and her husband were all "omg how are we going to pay for 8 kids" and they were all on the news I thought it was disgusting. If you can't afford to pay for basic safety for your kids (car seats, etc.) then you shouldn't have them.

holy god that last one WHO IS SHE :flushed: I honestly had no idea she's had that much plastic surgery.

I agree with most of you. She really shouldn't exploit her kids like that, but I'm a sucker for bad reality television so I watch anyway. Like I said, I haven't watched any of the new eps but I kind of just want to, just to see how she acts.

...I mean, I feel like having sextuplets might be the only time you can be totally A-OK to say, "OMG. How are we going to pay for 8 kids." Because multiples are really kind of rare. I know it's more common with IVF (that's what she had?) but still. Expecting one, maybe two, and going in for an ultrasound to discover there's six little critters in your belly?

I *THINK* she was on Clomid and the dosage overstimulated her ovaries and all the eggs she released happened to get fertilized and implant.

Yea, I think she was on fertility drugs.

I think Octo-mom has IVF though?

I just have very little sympathy for people raising kids that they cannot afford, regardless of the reasons that they have those kids.
  • I can't stand that narcissistic woman.  Ugh.
