If you open a gif in safari or your web browser on your phone and then hold down and hit copy on it, you can paste it in to text messages

Does it work not in iMessage?!?! Because if so I know a FI who is about to have his phone explode.

Yes. Just copy the image from the browser on your phone and send it to him, he'll be able to see it.

@beethery so I pasted the link (like 300 fucking characters) and it worked when he followed the link. Is there no way to attach it so the picture/gif plays right in the text message screen?

I hold a finger down on the gif, wait for the copy protocol to come up, and hit 'copy'. then I literally just paste it into a message and it works from there.

I don't know if you have Chrome on your phone, but I have to open gifs in Safari so that I can actually copy the gif and not save it or get the link.

ETA if you hold down in the blank space where you'd type a message, you should get a paste protocol.
