Dress from China?

I am having a hard time finding the dress that I want (for a price that I can afford). I have found several on Ebay that I really love but they are all sent from China. Has anyone experienced ordering a dress from China? I know that their sizes are much different. That's about all I know. I love the dress that I found but I'm just a little reluctant to order it.

Re: Dress from China?

  • Most people who do it are very disappointed. I wouldn't.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Agree with Addie - I think the success stories with these purchases are very few and far between.  Either way, definitely do your research first. See if you can find legitimate reviews on the company.  I think there are a lot of great alternatives to expensive designer gowns that don't come along with the risk of purchasing from these kinds of sellers.  There's always amazing re-sale gowns (check out sites like oncewed.com), or buying bridesmaids gowns in white or ivory if you are going for a more simple look.

NEVER order anything expensive or important from China!  NEVER!!!!

  • My MIL ordered a dress for the wedding from one of those sites, needless to say, she never even received the dress and she paid for express shipping.  She was horrified when I told her about these sites.

  • I know that there are some good sites that sell for less and real stores.  I work in New York and am from New Orleans.  So in New York there is RK not sure of their website, and in New Orleans there is Pearlsplace.com.  Both are real stores that sell for less and you do not have to worry about Chinese copies.  Just as a suggestion.

I am trying to stick with a budget around $300-$350. But I would prefer to find something for as cheap as I can honestly. I am looking for something lace and backless or with a back cutout. Everything that I have found online so far (Etsy, Ebay) is from China. :-(
  • Doesn't David's Bridal have a $99 dress sale once or twice a year?  That might be something to look into, OP.

Would you be okay wearing a second hand dress?  You can get a beautiful dress for the fraction of the cost that way.

I would definitely stay away from Chinese sites, as the dresses tend to be horribly made.  Sometimes they just take your money and never ship the dress.

  • Oh my goodness. Those things are scary!!!! Some of those Chinese Etsy shops have very good rating but I wonder if they sometimes make up their own ratings! With my luck this would be what happens to me!
  • Also, look in department stores evening wear section. Often they have formal gowns that come in white. A friend of mine recently married an American woman, and she wore this dress from Macys that cost $250 and it looked beautiful!

Also, check out preownedweddingdresses.com for a good deal if you know the design and style of dress you would like.

I would avoid ordering a dress from China like the plague!!!

  • You can find dresses in store for the prices you're looking for. Don't order online and hope for the best. You'll be out money and will potentially have one VERY expensive dishrag of a dress.
