Wedding Woes

Help me with masquerade party attire

I need to start by saying I'm not 100% sure we are going to this thing.  We just got the invite today.  It's a 30th birthday party for the wife of one of DH's BFFs.

BUT it's 2 weeks away and it's not really something that will be easy to throw together an outfit for at the last minute, so I'm trying to prepare asap.

I have this dress:

Could I just slap a black mask on my face?  It isn't really what I picture for a masquerade.  I have another dress that maybe could work, but I feel like I wear it all the time for weddings and it really isn't much fancier than this one.

The only other "fancy" dresses I own are my wedding dress and the bridesmaid dress I wore in this woman's wedding 7 years ago and it's purple with spaghetti straps and a silver bow.

  • I suspect to get it amped up like you want will take some accessories.

I think a black mask w/feathers and a short black cape, if you can find it and maybe some long black gloves (or if you could somehow find the khaki color in that) would get you a more upped factor.  Pearls at the throat and wrist can amp it up too.  Feather boa maybe?

You might find out how much other people are going all in too.

Hasn't your relationship with that dress lasted longer than their marriage did?
  • OMG yes, hmo.

They are still together.  Two kids in.

I will definitely ask what other people are doing.  I think I'm thinking too much into it.  It's not like I WANT to wear a ball gown or anything.
  • Dress as Harley Quinn.

Or maybe I'm just living vicariously w/ that suggestion
