Wedding Woes

Re: This one can go in the WW standard advice

  • I saw that on Jezebel last week.  The comments were interesting.  Very divided on awesome vs. the bride being an asshole and stooping to her parents 'level'.

I love my parents very much and they are 'normal', so I can't imagine what it's like to have shitty parents who want to try to actively ruin your life.  Finding catharsis has to almost be a need for this person.

  • Something reading that tells me "I think the parents had very little to do with it.."

All I can think is may she have children - JUST LIKE HER!  I know my friends from school growing up who had difficult parent relationships (foster care and all) did almost complete 180's once they had kids of their own to realize their parents did the best they could given their own personalities.  While I do know some true deadbeats too, but interestingly all of he kids accept their egg donor for who she is.

Mmm, IDK.  I could've sent this letter to bio parents if they had tried to show up.  Of course, each 1 had 1 conversation with me in my early 20s where I made it pretty clear I'm not interested in being friendly with toxic people...which they are.

There are plenty of people in the world damaged by people who should've never been parents.  Being bitter is a completely legitimate phase.

I could have done this with my paternal grandfather - he was an absolute @$$ while I was growing up and after I found out he sent yet another lawyer letter to my parents before our wedding I stopped calling him forever Grandpa as he hadn't earned that title (he sent one for every major event in my life from my First Communion up to the birth of our first born)...  .  So I totally understand bitter!!  OTOH, there's also the therapist in me that recognizes this gal has issues of her own she really needs to address for her, her relationship with her FI, and any future children's health down the road!
