Marriage in Missouri - Officiant from Illinois

So I'm getting married in St. Charles county and my pastor is located in Illinois.  He is willing to come to St. Charles.  Does anyone know if he can legally perform the ceremony?  I will be calling the county on Monday but I wanted to check and see if anyone has run into this before.  Thanks all!!!!

This is an international board, so most people won't be able to help you. I'm in South County, and all I can say is that for reliable info you'll need to call the county anyway. However - if the officiant is worth anything, he himself should know whether he's able to legally officiate in Missouri.
  • He's worth a lot actually.  He isn't from here.  He's my family pastor but he's not familiar with Missouri's law.  I'll check with the county.

  • Call the St. Charles County Clerk. We got married in St. Charles too - the clerk's office was actually very helpful when we had a couple issues.

  • Whoops, yeah, that came off a little rough - if he's primarily a church pastor, I can see where he'd want you to check in on his behalf. I was in the mindset of people who tend to research and hire their officiants like any other vendor - and if a person was offering his services as a vendor who wants you to hire him, I would expect that person to know where he's licensed to do his job.

And PP is right - the clerk's office is where the marriage licenses come from and where you should call specifically.
