AW our photo project!

FI and I usually do lots of projects (usually stuff for our house) but we haven't done anything in quite a while thanks to all the wedding busyness. Yesterday he randomly decided we should do a wall of some of our vacation photos in our house, so I started digging through all our photos. I can't believe we haven't done anything with them yet! So I pulled out our favorites and ordered prints today. Now I just have to find frames for them all. (Matted or non-matted? What would you photo pros recommend? I'm not great at this kind of stuff).

I keep looking through all of them and I'm so excited! I forgot how awesome some of these are. Thought I'd share some favorites with you ladies! (These are just the ones I took with my phone and I'm not the best photographer by any means but I'm still excited!)

  • Baby buffalo!!!

  • Girl. Those are gorgeous.

I like matted for larger prints, myself, but for smaller ones I wouldn't worry about it. So... my answer depends.

Something else I love is those photocollage frame things where they're a bunch of joined-up frames, and you can put all the pictures in them. They're usually 4x6 though so there's that.

Thank you! We decided to order them in 5x5 (no idea why, square just seemed better to me) so I guess they'll be pretty small. We probably won't bother with matting. I knew I was making things more difficult by choosing square instead of the more standard sizes but sometimes I like to be difficult lol

  • Love 'em all! I think if you frame them individually, then no need for matting. But, if you do a collage-type set up, then matting would be nice (...would kind of look like borders and help highlight the individual pictures).

  • ERMAGERD, BERFALERS!
lol we actually were stuck in a huge traffic jam when I took that photo because there was a giant buffalo herd crossing the road. One of them walked right up and got buffalo snot on the side of my car, which was totally cool cuz a baby was following him!  #YellowstoneProblems.

  • I'm just here to say that those are some damn good pictures. And also, that you are damn fine. But we already knew that :)

Bahaha thank you! See this is why I love you :P

  • Love them!! And now I totally want to go to Yellowstone! Was it all there, or what other areas? I'm thinking the seafood was elsewhere haha

  • I have a 6 foot map of the world on my dining room wall. I decided when we move, I'm gunna put it in the guest room and I'm going to outline/ go around the outside border with all pictures of us from around the world. I'd love to put the pictures in the actual location but it would never work- the US would be too jammed up.

    • The spider car was in the middle of nowhere in a random tiny town in Iowa (minor detour on our way out west)
    • The buffalo are in Yellowstone. It was so beautiful and amazing there! I have tons of really pretty pictures but I only posted that one cuz I didn't want to bombard you guys with 5000 photos lol
    • Idaho
    • Devil's Tower in eastern Wyoming
    • Mount Rushmore in South Dakota (kind of self-explanatory) lol
    • the Skywheel at Niagara Falls (Canada side)
    • Niagara Falls
    • Shoshone Falls in Idaho
    • The Teton mountains in Wyoming
    • Teton Village in Wyoming (right by Jackson Hole)
    • A seafood market in Outer Banks, North Carolina
    • the bay in Outer Banks
    • and Niagara Falls again

Probably shoulda just captioned the photos in the first place haha

But you could easily hit the Teton mountains and Yellowstone and hell, for that matter, take the north exit out of Yellowstone into Montana and then you're in the Rockies. That's what we did and it was STUNNING. Do it!

  • Love love love!
  • @jenna8984 GO FOR IT. That whole side of the country is beautiful. There is nowhere in the west that I've been and don't adore.

I love the frame Lolo found. It's fantastic. Square does pose more challenges with framing but I definitely think they'll look beautiful no matter what you choose!

Yes! Ditto the bolded! I spent a lot of time out west growing up, and FI had never really been out there so last summer I was like "ok get ready for the most epic road trip!" Our original plan was to just go out to Idaho, see Shoshone Falls, take a scenic route through the Sawtooths, and then head home.

Once we got out there, though, we never stopped driving. It was all so beautiful and we wanted to see as much as possible. After the scenic route (if you're interested, I HIGHLY recommend it; it was featured by CNN(?) as one of the most beautiful drives in the world, and Shoshone Falls was featured as one of the most beautiful little known sights in the world and are bigger than Niagara Falls!), we headed into Wyoming and went to Jackson Hole, then stayed at an awesome lodge in Teton Village and did a bunch of hiking, then headed north to Yellowstone and went up through Montana, wound around the Rockies, headed back east, hit Wyoming again, stopped by Devil's Tower, went through South Dakota and detoured to Mount Rushmore cuz why not, and then headed back home to Indiana from there. 11 days, 72 hours of driving. And every moment of it was so beautiful and so amazing.

  • I LOVE the pics! Great idea to hang them up. I keep meaning to do that, myself. Are you using one of this Groupon pic to frame things? I always wondered about using one, and was going to wait until the wedding pics.... but now looking at these, I want to hang up our regular and vacay pics too!

No Groupon, I hadn't even thought of that. I found a website that seems pretty good for ordering prints but I haven't used it before so we'll see how mine turn out. But you can also order them to come matted and/or framed (I didn't do that, but it seems pretty cool that they can show up to your house already done) and you can also order really really big prints.

It's called Nation's Photo Lab. Again, haven't gotten my photos yet so I have no idea how good this place is, but I used to just order prints from Walgreens and I was almost always disappointed with the quality.

  • OMG those are amazing!!!!  Those waterfalls.  OMG those waterfalls.
  • Ok that trip sounds amazing. When we around to going out there I'm going to message you for all those details again!!

Oh and you know how giant prints are usually really expensive? You can get a 3 foot big one for $5 at Staples. It's called their engineering prints. Originally made for blueprints/ maps but you can print normal pictures too! I've never done it but I saw it on pinterest and I just confirmed on staples website.
