Any ideas to replace father daughter dance?

Hi.  I am getting married Oct. 10th and I will not have a male (father or grandfather) to dance with during this part. Would it be okay to skip it?  My fiance' is fatherless too.  His mother will be there, so she will be dancing with him during the mother/son dance.

Any ideas on how to not make this awkward?

This is a 100 person wedding in a ballroom in downtown Houston.  Half of the people will understand and the other half will be scratching their heads wondering where my father is....

  • I would just skip it.

  • I'm dancing with my mom instead! :) You could also dance with a brother or uncle or a close family friend if you want to have it. Nothing wrong it skipping it either. Whatever you feel better about, do it your way.
  • I do not have my father either, ( i am doing a brother/sister dance since he will be walking me down the isle) but i would skip it if there is not a person giving you away most will get it, and not scratch their head.. it isn't that uncommon..

  • I am doing a mother/daughter dance. I was planning on doing a father/daughter dance but I'm not sure if my dad will even show up to my wedding. I was planning on having both my mom and dad walk me but my dad is an alcoholic and proably won't show up.

  • I am dancing with my uncle, hopefully. I am actually asking him tonight!
  • I'm not dancing with my dad because he doesn't like to dance. You'll dance with your new husband, he'll dance with his mom, and you just continue with whatever comes next.  I agree with PPs that it isn't that uncommmon and everyone will be fine.  It won't be as weird as you think it is :)
  • Okay ladies, just got home from a hockey game with my favorite uncle and I asked him to dance with me at the wedding. He said he would be honored and confided in me that he had been secretly hoping for months that I would ask him to do this with me. The whole thing warmed my heart and I am very lucky. Now we have to choose a song to dance to. =)
But alternatively if he had for some reason said now I would have been okay with not having a dance. My older sister didn't do anything in place of the father daughter dance for her wedding and it went by unnoticed.
  • That's so sweet, @MorgPie ! :)

To the OP, yes, do whatever makes you most comfortable.  Don't feel bad if you would rather skip it.
