Not Engaged Yet

I've missed this...

Hi everyone!!  I'm not even sure you will remember me :)  I just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing in life.  I try to lurk in the evenings after I get off of work, but it's sooo hard to keep up.

I don't know if you remember but I was unemployed and then got a job towards the end of summer and then went MIA because my job is absolutely not TK friendly. I see a lot of names I don't recognize but a lot I do... so even if I know you or if I don't tell me everything that is new around here, or you know, maybe the top 3 things that have happened to you in the last 6 months :) I would love to try to make it around here more.  Now that my wedding is only 10 months away I would love to share experiences and learn from you seasoned pros!

Re: I've missed this...

  • Hmm, let's see ...

1.) Wedding continues to approach - under 2 months!
2.) I started actually writing dissertation chapters and am targeting an August graduation.
3.) Haha just kidding there is no 3. Grad school and the new job has been the majority of my life.
  • Hi there! I just saw one of your posts on a thread I was reading and wondered how you had been!

    My top 3 are:
    1) I got engaged!
    2) FI and I already did e-pics
    3) Had a falling out with a friend that turned into a bridezilla, but took notes as to how not to act.

How is wedding planning going for you?

  • Hi BreMR! I can't believe your wedding is getting so close, less than a year! How's planning going? How's your job?

Three new things in my life, hmm...

    1) BF finally bought an engagement ring so we're one step closer to getting engaged!

    2) I got a new job at a credit union. It's okay, I don't hate it but I don't find it rewarding either. But it's nice to actually be making enough to live off. It's pushing me toward doing a PhD though so I can teach at a university.

    3) In a month and a half I'm moving to a new apartment! I'm so excited, it's across the street from my job and my gym and right next to a grocery store so I'll rarely have to drive. Plus it's way bigger/nicer than my place now. I can't wait to move in!

  • Hi! Nice to meet you!

Yes, please tell me all about your wedding planning, such an exciting time for you.

    1. I got a big promotion at work so now I am in a management position which is really exciting for me since I put myself on that track and to actually see myself progress in the direction I dreamed of and aimed for is a big accomplishment and a great feeling.

    2. I got a really beautiful new camera from SO for my birthday, which means I can get back into photography and maybe back into professional photography.

    3. Nothing else really exciting for me since I have learned that having a full time job also means not having much time for other big things BUT I am reconnecting with old friends and many friends have confided in me to tell me big things that are happening to them such as long waited for pregnancy. The fact that they are doing this makes me feel like I am still capable of having genuine relationships despite professional obligations.
  • Hey @BreMR! So glad to see you're back! How's wedding planning going?

    1) H and I went through a very rocky process of buying a house in the fall. The one we were buying fell through the day before closing and we had to be out of our apartment a week later, so our animals (new kitten included) moved in with my parents 3 hours away and we moved in with my aunt an hour away for 3 months while we waited through more of the process with the original house and ultimately walked away and found another way better house! We closed and moved in in January and it's amazing so far!

    2) I didn't have a car for 7 of the 8 years H and I lived in Jersey City. I just didn't need one. H got a new job a while back with crazy hours so we ended up buying an old car with a bazillion miles on it from SFIL. Once we moved and I started having a real commute, we decided it was time to get me a more reliable car. So, a few months ago I got a Vokswagen Eos which I've wanted for like 8 years since my mom first had one. It's gorgeous and I can't wait for summer to ride around with the top down!

    3) After 7.5 years with my company, I finally got the raise I've been begging for! It's nice to feel appreciated again :)

  • Hey @BreMR ! Miss seeing you around these parts!!

    1. I'm pregnant!! We found out in January and I'm 11 weeks. We are excited to see the end of the tunnel for our first trimester and leave all the nasty symptoms from that behind. We have our 2nd ultrasound next week so we will get to see our little peach again soon.

    2. We are in the process of house hunting. We put an offer on a house yesterday that we LOVE. Hopefully the owner will accept and we can move forward with the process.

    3. Maddux will be one years old in April!!! He is growing like a week and fills our days with laughs and smiles lol.

Hey @BreMR! Hope the job is going well! Glad to see you around these parts again

    1. I'm preggers. 32 weeks tomorrow. I can't believe I'll have a baby in only 2 months! Crazy!

    2. Job is going ok. I survived a major round of layoffs (about 40% of the company) last november and was actually promoted to a manager. Can't say I love managing, but I'm excited to not have lost my job and still have new opportunities.

    3. H and I finally paid off all our CC debt! It felt like a huge accomplishment and we're really happy to only have the mortgage and his student loans left in the debt side.

  • Hi Bre! Welcome back. How are you enjoying the new job?

    Last six months for me:
    1) DH and I took our last shot at medically-assisted TTC (trying to conceive). It didn't work, so we have moved on to living childless. It's been a tough transition and I'm not sure I'm totally ready to give up hope yet, but that's where we are right now.

    2) We adopted two black labs in June and they have basically become our world. They are the best and we love them so much! Their names are Heinrich Fritz (Fritz) and Frederick Armand (Freddie). <3

    3) This winter has been ridiculous. DH and I are having serious discussions about moving back to Phoenix. It wouldn't be until early 2016, but I'm excited.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Welcome back!!' You've been missed!

    1) I took a new job back in September that pays more and is family owned so yay for job security.

    2) I've started wedding planning and we have our venue and a date!

    3) FI is sadly still without a job. Definitely needing job vibes there.

  • Welcome back!  I'm glad to hear about the new job but boo for no Knot time.

    Last 6 months.

    (1) H and I bought and are working on remodeling our house.  We did the wood floors, painting, built a fence, new heating and cooling, almost have the basement finished, a basement bathroom added and almost finished and our kitchen completely gutted and redone (just need a backsplash and some paint at this point).

    (2) We started TTC but no go so far.  We just started though.

    (3) We started a business.  H wants a back-up plan in case he loses his current contract as they are letting people go.  We don't have any customers yet but the website is up and pieces are in place.

Welcome back! I've definitely missed your presence around here and I hope you get to drop by more often!

In the last six months for us:

    - H and I got married in October! The wedding day was absolutely beautiful and perfect (I seriously couldn't have asked for better weather), we got married, everyone had fun at our reception, and then we went on an amazing honeymoon to Munich, Germany!

    - We've been doing a ton of home renovations. In the past two months alone we've - replaced our heater and AC, replaced our septic system, removed all of our wallpaper and are finally in the process of painting, and next week we're getting new sod in our backyard!

  • Hmm in the last six months...
    1. I had sinus surgery the week before Christmas. It's helped A LOT, and I'm really glad I was able to do it.
    2. FI and I booked part of our honeymoon at Disney World, which is really exciting. We'll be there for a week in November. We're keeping our eyes peeled for deals at Universal for a few days so we can go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter too.
    3. Last night we talked with our wedding party and figured out a date for our bachelor/bachelorette parties in Vegas! We're going Labor Day weekend, and I'm soooo excited. I've been itching to book trips lately, so the timing of all of this was perfect.

  • YAY!! It's the other Bre!!! Welcome back, I've missed you!

    For me:

    1. FI & I bought a house in November! It's pretty much the best thing ever. I love the house, having our own space, and being able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. Vi loves the back yard, and I can't wait for the 790432 feet of snow to melt so we can enjoy the fire pit.

    2. Work has it's ups & downs. I'm currently really frustrated and nervous about some changes going forward. There are parts (athletics) that I really really love, and the other parts that I'm not so sure about, and I don't know what's going to happen moving forward.

    3. We are getting SO CLOSE to the wedding. My shower is in just a couple weeks (March 21), we were in CT this past weekend and did ALL the wedding things, including our food tasting, which was AMAZING, I've been working out like a beast so I feel better in my dress, and I'M ALMOST A WIFE!! WEEEEE!!

  • Hi Bre! I definitely remember you!

    1. Wedding is getting close! Less than 3 months away! We sent out invitations this past weekend. We picked a bachelorette party day (sleepover, night before my shower.)

    2. I was forced to resign from my job, and now I'm hunting for more work besides my small part time teaching gig. I'm going to try and focus on finding something that's actually what I WANT to do (teaching, working in school, college, museum, or gallery). But... yeah... no income is freaking me out. And it feels very weird that I"m not jumping for anything that provides money. I even turned down an interview. I had a good shot at getting it but.. it wouldn't lead to what I want at all. And I don't want to give up on pursuing my goals so quickly again. I've signed up for subbing, and I have that training this week.

    3. FI has decided to stay with his internship for next year, which is exciting. I'm so glad he loves who he works for and what he's doing!

How are you Bre? And I so want to know about your job!
  • Welcome back! I've only been 'active' the past few months, so you probably wouldn't remember me.

Top 3 things in the last 6 months... Honestly, my life is pretty boring right now, so I might extend mine a bit more..

    1) built a house and moved in last june (9months)

    2) My momma got engaged a few weeks ago. She's never been married and is SO excited, I love it. (not my life lol)

    3) ... That's about it.

  • @BreMR I know the feeling about being too laid back! One of my best friends (who will be in my bridal party when I ask) asked me if I had any thoughts about a bachelorette party already and seemed a bit annoyed when I just said that I wanted something fun and easy for everyone. She wanted me to give more input it seems. My mother and FMIL are already shopping for their dresses and asking for my input, and I'm just like "wear whatever makes you happy!".

You sound JUST like me!!  I gave my bridesmaid's one rule 'find a black dress you like."  My one friend already asked when we can do my shower... I'm getting married in December!  This is not a thing yet! :)

  • @BreMR hahaha well I'm pretty divided on what I'm possibly having. A lot of people (mainly my mother) think I'm having a girl based on our initial ultrasound because the baby had a fast heart beat. I think it's an old wive's tale that says males tend to have slower heart beats and girls are faster...I don't know lol. The heartbeat slows down to a more normal pace though as the baby grows so my mom is probably just trying to get excited about having a granddaughter lol.

@BreMR I'm honestly regretting the decision to get the sod done so early. It still hasn't warmed up and we're getting almost constant rain so I'm wondering if I should have scheduled for later in the month or early April instead. Oh well I guess! At least I know we can't expect any blizzards or snow or ice (probably) at this point - just wet, chilly weather. I changed my username because I was a Ho, and now I'm a Bro. :) It's a play on names thing.

  • @BreMR I hope it works out! I still have a lot of nerves about it to be honest... but I have some savings, so I'll give it a go for a bit. It's going to really hurt watching them get depleted though... ugh. Real life is hard.

I hope you like your job at least a little! It sounds like you're really working hard! I don't know if I could handle never having a lunch break! What exactly are you doing? Or, generally what are you doing? If you don't mind sharing?
