Crazy Wedding Dream

I had my first major crazy wedding dream last night and felt like sharing.  Last night was the first night in about four nights that I got more than three hours of sleep in one period, so I am sure my mind was all over the place.  Well, the ceremony was not even at the chapel that we are getting married at, but at a bigger church.  There was a couple ahead of us who were getting married and ended up sticking around to watch ours.  When the wedding party went down the aisle, they did not play the correct music, so my fiancé went over to the dj type person and asked him to play the correct music.  Then when it was turn for my dad and I to walk down the aisle, I turned to him and he was a tiny little man at first.  I looked again and he was my regular sized dad.  So strange lol.

Well, when we started to walk down, they also played the wrong music.  I stopped our walk down the aisle and went over to the dj to tell him.  He switched to the right song, but it was the wrong version.  My dad and I are walking down to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Brother IZ and while he changed it to the correct song, it was a different version of that song that I had never heard before.  I said screw it and continued to walk down the aisle with my dad.  We walked on the side of the pews instead of in the middle. Oi vey.  When we got to the altar, the previous wedding party was sitting at a dining table just to the side of us as we were saying our vows.  What a weird mess.

This is what grad school has done to my brain.  Yikes.  I wanted to share while the dream is still fresh.

Has anyone else had any crazy wedding dreams lately?

Re: Crazy Wedding Dream

  • I had one the other night too! Everything was going awesome.. then I realized 1/2 way through the reception that I had never finalized the food or given them a head count so there was no food AT ALL! I went into full blown freak out mode and was running to tell the venue (they are also doing our food) and get something out then I woke up.. thank goodness, didn't want to see the end of that one!

  • I had one last week where I accidentally texted FI a picture of me wearing my wedding dress. And he freaked out about it being bad luck to see it ahead of time and wanted me to go buy a new one.

The next day at work his mom texted me and asked if I would send her a picture of my dress (I am borrowing FI grandmas pearls to wear as my 'old and borrowed' and FMIL wanted to see if they would match or not)

I was so terrified to text her a picture because I was so worried I would accidently send it to FI instead. I think i triple checked I had the right person before i sent it and then proceeded to have a minor panic that I had somehow sent it to him lol.

  • I've had several wedding dreams, but the most recurring theme is forgetting to pick up the marriage license. In my dream, it's always the day of or the day before the wedding, and I always start by thinking, "Okay, don't panic, we can just go to the county office and get one." Except in Florida, there's a three day waiting period, so then I panic and that's usually when I wake up.

  • I'm so glad the wedding dreams are over. I had a few weird ones, but the one I remember the most was where the pastor wouldn't let my dad walk me down the aisle (still don't remember why)! I just remember waking up angry after that one.

  • I cannot count the number of wedding nightmares I have had. It is actually funny as they all seem to do with what I have not planned yet. Example: Before we booked a venue the dreams were always that I woke up without a place to have the wedding and guests started arriving at my house! Then once that was booked I was worried about my dress. So all my dreams were I woke up the morning of my wedding without a dress!

Now take that and just go forward with each step of the way and you have an idea of my wedding planning life. It is just so crazy. I know logically that everything will be taken care of...of course there will be food etc, but I still have that nagging "what am I forgetting?" feeling.

  • I'm still having dreams 6 months after the wedding! It's so odd. I had one the other night that someone gave us the wrong cake.
  • I just started to have them. We always forget the rings and end up in a huge hotel ballroom reception (which we are not having in real life) and I am crying because my dad is insisting on paying for everything even though there are 200 more people than we talked about.

I've had that same one three times and I'm not into it.

  • My dreams usually focus around me failing to do something and not realizing it until the day off, or even at the wedding. A couple of times we've all been at the reception and discovered I forgot to get plates and silverware. This led to me giving all the responsibility for that to my caterer...

  • I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding on Saturday. Last night I dreamed that I showed up at the wedding in my bridesmaids dress and picked up a program and I was listed as an usher, not a bridesmaid. The bride and groom had demoted me without even telling me! The bride and I had a good laugh about that one this morning.

Did the bride demote you with a poem? Because then it would be fine.

  • I'm having dreams for my friend who is getting married in July, now.  In the last one, she was wearing a typical 80's dress (teased hair, poofy sleeves, the whole nine yards) while her FI was wearing a kilt and a floor length leather jacket.  She also decided to have me light candles, but forgot to tell me - so she got some snarky teenage girl to tell me (rudely) in the middle of the ceremony.

I have to deal with snarky teenage girls IRL and I do not appreciate them... so I dove over the pew and started a brawl with this one.

  • I've only started having weird wedding dreams now that it's done.  It's mostly stuff about us not being organized and no one turning up.  We had real issues with the invites.  We posted them six weeks out, and even though letters usually take a week, we had people who got theirs the week of the wedding.  And there was the bridesmaids dress that turned up the day before, so I think it's just me working through all of that stress.  Oh, and the last minute cancellation of the celebrant and having to find a new one.

I had a bad one last night where it was just me and DH in the venue, and I didn't have a dress, so I was wearing my pajamas, and about three people came.  It's just the kind of dream that makes me feel

  • I'm a major dreamer anyway, like super vivid bizarre stuff and lots of nightmares, almost every night. So I've had tons and tons of wedding nightmares ever since we first got engaged a year and a half ago. Drives me nuts.

In the most recent one, it was storming on the day of our wedding so our ceremony was moved indoors, but the indoor space was this giant wedding hall where 60 different weddings were taking place all at the same time, and there were no doors or walls to divide them. We finally found our ceremony space and the ceiling broke up and poured rain water all over me and the guests.
While I went to dry off and try to somehow fix my hair and makeup, my dad and sister told all the guests to move to a different space. So then I couldn't find the ceremony site. The guests got bored with waiting, and right when I finally found them they were all leaving. Not a single person stayed.
When I went to tell FI, he tells me that the caterer and photographer also never bothered to show up. So pretty much the wedding wasn't happening at all. My mind was racing and I was trying to figure out some way to salvage the day, and I had the fleeting thought of just re-planning all of it but we had already spent all our money and had $0 left for anything else. And then --honest to god-- in my dream I thought "the ladies on TK would kill me if I had a PPD."

  • I'm always having weird ones but it was my FI who had one last night! He said our DJ canceled day of because he was having an issue with a stalker bride from the last wedding he worked (I lol'd hard at my FI when he told me this) and one of our friends luckily had his iPod with him during our reception, for some reason, and saved the day.

But the best part is that in the dream, my FI and I handed out wedding evaluations to our guests and made them fill them out at the end of the reception. (Did you enjoy yourself? What could we have done better? etc.). HAHA

Somebody should really do this - ask guests to evaluate weddings. Not the bride and groom directly - hopefully they won't be having another wedding anyway. But like, if wedding websites collected anonymous surveys of guest responses and then pooled them... Maybe people would finally figure out certain things. For example, I have a friend who is not always super etiquette friendly. She definitely flat out asked her parents to pay for her wedding, she started a gofundme page for something they wanted that people could contribute to as a wedding gift. But guess what? She drew the line, hard, at cash bar. She came back from a cash bar wedding and hated on it big time.

On a related note - when I woke up the morning after my dream about being demoted from bridesmaid to usher, I had this nagging feeling all day that I had something I needed to post on TK. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a dream. Hahahaha.

Sort of like when you have a dream that your SO is mean to you and you wake up and are inexplicably mad at real-SO for what dream-SO did (unless I'm the only one that that happens to, in which case... awkward...)

  • I am glad I am not the only one! Thanks you sharing your stories! Oi vey, I am sorry you all had such crazy and stressful dreams!  They seem so real too!  I feel like wedding dreams can be worse or just as bad as school dreams.  Ugh, it's a toss up.

Oh, I've totally done that.  Had a dream-fight with J and woken up furious at him.  I also used to dream that my ex was cheating on me, and would wake up angry also.  Fun fact - we ended up calling off the wedding and breaking up because he cheated on me.  Womp womp.

We're not having kids, and last night I dreamt that J decided he was okay with having a baby.  I thought (in my dream) 'this is a dream'.

  • I keep having dreams that we get married somewhere other than the wedding. In the middle of a concert on stage, at the mall, the conference room at work. Every time I get hysterical that no one we knew was there and now I'm stuck with that being my wedding or having a PPD. The PPD always makes me cry harder.

Occasionally we find some loophole like the fact that the marriage license was made form construction paaper and crayon so we aren't really married.

My FMIL did actually forget hers at home 40-some years ago. An uncle had to run home and get it just before the ceremony was starting!
