Small Wedding of 25 guest in Jackson Square

I am planning a small short intimate ceremony in Jackson Square! It will be in November of this year on a Saturday. I am an out of town bride, and I do not know how early the French Quarter gets started. Do you have a suggested time to have a quick 20-30 minute ceremony ( if that long)? I live in Dallas, but I have only been there once. It will take place right outside of the Jackson Square gates.  I'm just not sure how early I need to plan for the ceremony.

All comments and suggestions are welcomed! I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!!

  • Hey @wlw0035 !  I think it really depends on how you're wanting the day to go.  Are you planning on doing brunch afterward, etc?  If you're worried about crowds, Saturday's tend to be one of the busy days down in the Quarter.  However, November marks both  the end of wedding season in NOLA (October is the busiest time of year for weddings) and there really aren't a whole lot of tourists in town during the month (compared to during festivals, etc.).  The city actually rents Jackson Square out for weddings, even brief intimate ones.  You must contact the Parks and Rec Centers Department and get a permit.  They have a chart on their page stating what the fees are for weddings by size.  If you're having 2-25 guests, the cost is $250.  26-100 guests, the fee is $500.

Here's the link to their website:

I'm not sure how to swing it if you'd rather not rent the actual space out.  If you want to sneak it in and avoid crowds, I would probably do it earlier in the morning.  It really depends on what day you're planning to do it and what events are happening in the area.

Good luck!  I hope I helped some!
  • Thank you so much! All of this was super helpful. Yes, I'd like to do brunch afterwards, and then I want to try and figure out something else to plan for the rest of the day with my wedding guest. I've also looked into hiring a second line to take us from Jackson Square to the reception area. Do you recommend any good brunch places for the reception somewhat close to Jackson Square? I'll have the Second Line for 20 minutes, so anything close within that time frame would be awesome!

    Thanks again for your suggestions!
  • Tableau is in Jackson Square and they have a fantastic brunch. They also have a few private dining rooms.
  • Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check them out!
  • I'll have to look into restaurants open for brunch in the area!  I've heard good things about Tableau, though!  And you're welcome!

Also, I hired Kinfolk Brass Band for my Second Line.  We aren't getting married until October, but I've seen their Second Line and they are amazing!  Just thought I'd throw that out there since I was all over the board looking for a good brass band! @wlw0035
  • @edenisle, I have contacted Kinfolk Brass Band, and I will probably book them. I was really impressed.  They quoted me $750, but that does not include the permit and city fees. I've emailed and tried to call the city, but no luck yet.

As for the reception, I also saw that the Natchez Steamboat offers a buffect brunch cruise, and I thought that might be cool to treat my guests to. I'm just not sure of how high of quality the food is. Do you have any knowledge about the brunch/breakfast cruises?  I'm also looking into Tableau, so I am juggling a lot of options! My wedding is at the end of November, so I really only have about 8 months to go.

We used Kinfolk this past November for our and they're worth every penny!!!!  Enjoy!
  • @wlw0035 No, I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with the brunch/breakfast options on the cruises.  Good luck, though!  Maybe see if there are any yelp reviews?  (Sorry, that's all I can think of!)

If I hear anything or find someone who has had experience with their brunch cruises, I will pass it on to you. :)
  • We did a casual brunch w/o a reservation at the Court of Two Sisters.  It was amazing!  We went at 1pm though, so that is probably why all 25 of were able to get tables close to one another.  They do a buffet that is around $40/pp and is AMAZING!  You can also arrange for a group reservation for your whole party and their prices are pretty reasonable (sorry don't remember the actual cost).  I didn't do the big res because we weren't sure how many of our guests would make it since it was Sunday morning the 1st week of JazzFest.  Glad I decided on that though seeing how only 1/2 of our guests actually made it.  I highly recommend this place though.
