Songs to Walk Down the Aisle To

I need help picking a song to walk down the aisle to! I have no idea where to even start. It took us months to pick our first dance song and I am running out of time. Anybody have any good ideas?

Re: Songs to Walk Down the Aisle To

  • I will be walking to "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes.
  • I walked down to Canon in D by Pachelbel.  Classic and pretty.

  • I'm walking to Canon in D as well.  I wanted something familiar to my guests that would signal that it was my entrance that wasn't "here comes the bride".  I have contemporary songs picked out for the Prelude, FI's entrance, and our recessional.

  • I walked to Au Revoir Simone's Take Me As I Am, I knew the first time I heard the song on a mixtape that husband made me while we were still dating that I would walk the aisle to it.  But I do think that the classics are classic for a reason and if you are struggling to come up with a song, sticking to the classics is a beautiful way to go.
  • I'm walking to A Thousand Years played on a harp. I also really loved Clair de Lune by Debussy.

OMG I think my WP is going to walk down to a piano version of that!  How was it?  It seems like such a beautiful song for the WP to walk down to!
  • @dcbride86 - I was behind a thing in the back, but from what I could hear and see, it seemed really nice! Listening to it is a really nice memory.

  • I'm going to walk to a string quartet version of "Sweet Child O Mine" by Guns N Roses. FI plays it for me on guitar all the time and says he thinks of me every time he hears it.

What song you walk to will be entirely up to you two as a couple. If we didn't have that song, I would be walking to Canon in D.

Our wedding party walked to a piano cover of Sweet Child O Mine!

My processional was Trumpet Voluntary by Purcell, arranged for trumpet and piano.

I walked to Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually. Several guests commented on how lovely the song choice was, and I just love it so much.

  • I'm thinking of walking down to Walk through this world with me by George Jones. It's going to be a surprise to FI. This is his favorite song and sings it to me. He wanted it somewhere in the wedding day.

  • When September Ends by Green Day (the Vitamin String Quartet version). They have tons of covers, check them out for ideas.
  • We did all covers by Vitamin String Quartet and I loved it. My husband escorted his parents down the aisle to their cover of the Pixie's Here Comes Your Man, my bridesmaids walked down to their cover of I'll Stand By You, and I walked down to their cover of the Cure's Just Like Heaven. I'm sure 90% of my guests just thought it was pretty violin music, but the wedding party got the joke at least.

But also on my short list was Canon in D, Norman Palm's cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, A Life That's Good from the show Nashville, Vitamin String Quartet's cover of All I Want Is You...

ITunes is super helpful - Vitamin String Quartet has a million albums, as do the Piano Guys. You can also just search on there for "wedding music" and a bunch of stuff comes up.
  • My wedding party walked out to the Piano Guys version of "I Can't Help Falling in Love", and I walked out to the Piano Guys version of "A Thousand Years".  Can you tell I really like the Piano Guys...

  • My SIL walked down the aisle to a portion of "from this moment" by Shania Twain. I thought it was perfect.

"If you really want something you don’t stop for anyone or anything  until you get it".
  • My WP walked to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (the Hawaiian guy) and I walked to "Bridal March" by Jonathan Cain (a very pretty piano only version of Here Comes the Bride).
  • It all depends on your personal style and what you like.  We had "Love Is All Around" by The Troggs.  My hippie side came out, but we are planning a vow renewal which will be more reflective of our Wyoming Western side and we will be walking in together to either "The Battle Hymn Of Love" by Kathy Mattea, or  "Keeper Of The Stars" by Tracy Byrd.  Close your eyes and see if you can see yourself walking down the isle.  Good luck.
  • I'm walking to Amy Nuttall's cover of "Greensleeves".  I'm dressing as Anne Boleyn, the lyrics eerily describe my dress, it speaks to our love of Tudor history, and is just really damn pretty!  FH is walking to the Freddy nursery rhyme since he'll be dressed as Freddy Krueger.

You'll know the song when you find it.  Good luck! :)
  • I'll be walking to Journey's "Faithfully" played by a string duet.
jenijoyk about the Vitamin String Quartet. Their cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" was my second choice for walking down the aisle :)
I think we'll use a few of their albums for background music during the dinner reception.

I picked "The Only Exception" performed by Vitamin String Quartet (originally by Paramore). It's over 5 mins long, so I think I'll just do the one song for the bridesmaids and myself. There's also a really dramatic overture at one point about 3.5/4 mins in, so it's a great transition from bridesmaids to bride.

Our recessional will be "Best Day of My Life" by Vitamin String Quartet (originally by American Authors).

  • I'm walking to Get Low, so I don't think I'm the right person to ask. That being said...

I'm the MOH for my BF's wedding and I'll tell you what I told her. Look back through the relationship and if there are any really significant songs for you guys see if there's a string version or acoustic version. If not, you can never go wrong with classics. I personally love Canon in D and listen to it just because.
  • My daughter walked down the aisle to this AMAZING NEW wedding song by Haley & Michaels called "Giving It All To You"  http://smarturl.it/TheWeddingSong
