Small diamond ideas

I bought a journey style pendant with the intention of breaking it down into earrings for myself and my mom. Anyways, I'm really dumb and cannot count. So there are 7 stones in total. The largest bottom stone I want to set into a bezel necklace. The next 4 up will be the earrings, but the top 2 are pretty small - around 2.5mm each. I don't want to make them into regular stud earrings, but am not sure what else to do with them. Any ideas? image

Re: Small diamond ideas

  • My mom used old diamonds from an old engagement ring to make me studs. I wear them as my second earrings. I took a picture next to my ring to give you an idea of how very teeny they are but I love them. Why don't you want studs?

But if the necklace isn't what you wanted you should return it.

  • @bethsmiles - easier? yes, cheaper, nope. I got a great deal and theyre nice quality diamonds. So instead of spending $500 on one pair of studs, I'm spending a bit more, getting 2 pairs, a necklace and still have the gold & diamonds leftover. I really wanted to get my mom diamond studs as a wedding gift, but this gets her the best quality I can afford.

@kaitlynmichelle - My jeweler suggested still making them into studs actually. The other 2 pairs of earrings will be studs as well, I was just thinking of doing something else with them but cant decide.

  • If there is nothing that you want to do with them right now, I'd hold on to them. Down the line you may want to combine a diamond or other gem with some stones, and you'll have some good size ones just ready to include. No need making it into a piece of jewelry just for the sake of it.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Go to a jewelry store.  The jeweler should be able to help you design something based off the size of the stones.  Honestly I don't see 2 pairs of earrings working since each stone is a different size.  It may be a better idea to make a necklace, bracelet or ring with the stones.

  • Why don't you use all the stones for a diamond by the yard-type necklace? Make the biggest diamond the one that's going to sit like a pendant, and the others going up the chain. Usually diamond by the yard are bezel-set diamonds but a good jeweler can make it work with a regular four prong setting.

  • @speakeasy14 They are different sizes, but the mm size is very slight for the middle ones, it's not too noticeable. I was considering a ring with the smallest 2, similar to @kaitlynmichelle 's ring actually. But swapped, maybe a sapphire in the middle, or something like that.

@buddysmom80 I wanted to make some into earrings, but I was considering doing that for the 3 left over. So the biggest one bezel set in the middle, and maybe the two smaller ones up a bit? I'd do them all bezel set if this were the case so they dont flip.

@cu97tiger I might hold onto everything for a while right now. I wanted it for a wedding gift for my mom, but she isnt getting married until may 16, so I still have lots of time. I'm just so impatient!

    Thanks for your ideas :)
