Best way to polish ring

Hi,

I just got engaged and have heard about "sparkle spa" or something for the ring -- is that the actual brand?  I looked on Amazon and it seems like there are a million products out there.  I have a platinum setting w/ diamonds on the band - any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Best way to polish ring

  • Aside from my yearly cleaning (where the re-plate my ring because it's white gold and check the prongs) I just use a soft toothbrush and mild soap to clean it.  It brings it back to sparkly and then I blow dry it to get all the water out from between the diamonds.

  • See if your jeweler will clean it for you, My jeweler checks the prongs and cleans my ring every 4 months. But I can just pop in and ask to get it clean and they do it for me no problem.

  • I take a couple of drops of liquid dish soap (I bought perfume and dye free soap) with water.  Give it a swish in a cup then scrub it with a baby toothbrush.

I clean mine about every 2 weeks to keep it nice and shiny since lotion and other dirt from day to day can get stuck on it.  I find the dirt can be really noticable on mine bc its an asscher cut and anything on the facets seems to make it look a little bit cloudy.

I used to use dish soap and/or baking soda. It cleans it well, but then the shine fades quickly. I received a little bottle of Connoisseur jewelry cleaner at a bridal show & it works amazing! You soak it for a few seconds & then brush the ring. I use a soft toothbrush to clean larger pieces of jewelry. Then you rinse & dry. It kind of coats it & protects the shine for over a week, in my experience. Plus, it's pretty cheap. I got a large bottle of the Precious stone version at Target for like $6.
  • I brought my e ring to the jeweler the day before the wedding to get shined up and the girl said that you could also just take a soft toothbrish and some rubbing alcohol to bring the bling back.  I haven't tried it yet, though.
  • For the longest time, I used the soaps from Bath and Body Works and a soft toothbrush. Then I bought the Sonic ring cleaner, and I love it!!!! It is the same as the cleaner the Jeweler uses. I love it! The only downfall to it is that you have to go back to the jeweler for the refill. Getting a refill really depends on how often you clean your ring. I clean my ring about once a week, my sonic refill liquid has lasted 2 months. Come to think of it, I need to change it soon.

He stole my heart, so I'm stealing his last name.
  • There is also an ammonia-based jewelry cleaner you can buy at Walmart and other retailers, usually by the jewelry counter.  It's great for bringing the sparkle back between professional cleanings.  And since it is a similar ammonia-based forumula, plain Windex also works as a cheaper option!  Just be careful if your ring is made of anything else besides gold and diamonds since there are some materials like the emeralds in my ring set which can be damaged by certain cleaning products.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • FI gave me the ring cleaner he received when he purchased the ring.  It does amazing work.

Ditto this. Ask your jeweler - they may give you one for free.  I clean my ring about once a week in the cleaner and little brush they gave me.
  • I soak mine in warm water with a bit of dish soap, I then use an old sonicare toothbrush head and it works amazingly! I would advise against using rubbing alcohol.

Diamond Dazzle stick.  I love it.  I use it twice a week and it makes my diamonds sparkle.  I also bought another product from the same company but have yet yo use it.
