NWR: wine rack help

So, there's this wall mount wine rack at work for 20 bucks, and I think it could be cute.

Could be. It's rustic. I don't do rustic.

So. I'm thinking spray paint it a dark color and add metallic accents, but I'm curious if you guys have any other ideas.

Re: NWR: wine rack help

  • I think that could work. I'd do either a dark gel stain over the wood, or fill in the grooves between the planks with wood putty, sand it super smooth, and then paint a high-gloss white.

  • I don't really see the point of a wine rack that only holds three bottles.

I'd probably get three of them, make it a statement. And yeah, paint or at least stain them.

  • It looks like ply wood.  You will need a lot of spray paint to cover it evenly.  Paint would probably soak it up like crazy.

How about using a wood stain to make it darker?

  • Another vote for dark gel stain.

And also, I would like to purchase one please.

I generally drink the bottle the moment it enters my house, so anything that holds more than 3 or so would always look empty.

That is fair. We happen to live a half hour from one 'wine country' and 2h from another. We may or may not have gotten carried away once or five times.

We live in the heart of wine country and go wine tasting ALL the time. 2 weeks ago we came home with 4 bottles - only one of them is left and will probably be opened tonight. We're going to a wine trail event this weekend that pairs wine with bacon-inspired foods. I'll probably buy ALL the wine in my bacon and wine infused haze.
  • I thought you were talking about this

And I was going to tell you that it has a lot of tubing and is pretty obvious when you use it.

I have no advice on actual wine racks.

So... what's your address? I'm coming over.

Anyway, another vote for a dark gel stain here.

  • I'd like to see it with a thick translucent coating to get that prismatic look of oil painting...is that a gel finish varnish? Can't tell the quality of the wood on mobile, but if it's not good or the color is weird, I would vote for dark stain, too.

Then happy I, that love and am beloved

Heading to Niagara this weekend, if anybody wants to join.

  • I'm pretty sure it's particle board, so I'm not sure how well sanding it will work, but a gel stain works over top most things, so I'll probably try that.

This. Here's a picture of our wine rack right now:

This is me. I stock up on wine so I always have some in the house. I currently have a 9-bottle wine rack and it's not big enough.
