Following up about a job

Looking for a little advice...I had an informal phone interview two weeks ago for a job I applied for, it went very well and the recruiter said she would like to bring me in for an interview. She said herself or the hiring manage would call me back. So it's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything, I'm wondering if I should follow up or not. If I follow up should I call, email or drop a quick note on LinkedIn?

I know two weeks is not a long time but it feels like forever when you're looking for a new job. Any advice is much appreciated.

I would definitely send a quick email.  Thank her for her time, let her know you had a nice time speaking with her, and confirm you're still interested in the position and just wanted to follow-up.

    Good luck!

  • "Hi so-and-so,

I want to thank you again (assuming you sent a TY note to the recruiter) for taking the time to meet with me on (insert date).

During our conversation, you had mentioned that (so-and-so, title) would be following up with me about the (such-and-such) position. I'm still very interested and would appreciate the opportunity to pursue this opportunity. This position would be a good fit for me because (insert a one liner about why you'd be great).

Please let me know if there would be a good time to schedule a phone call.

    Sincerely,

  • Time really drags when you are looking for a job, but I would suggest you spend the time continuing to look. Contacting them will not do anything to increase your chances of getting that job. When they need to contact you, they will. Harsh, but unfortunately, this is true. Best of luck in your search and keep your chin up!
  • My DH had a phone interview in Oct.  They contact him a little over a week later for a live tasting that was OOT 2 weeks later.   Now we are in mid-Nov.   They told him at the tasting they had a few more tastings and they would get back to him around xmas.      Xmas came and went.  Just after the holidays DH sent an email basically wishing they had a good holiday seasons and to thank them for their time.

They responded saying they were making a choice in a week or 2.    End of January came and went.  DH figured he didn't get the job.   Feb 5th came and he got the job offer.  2 weeks later we moved to another state.

So from the time of his first phone interview until he got the job was 4 months.  DH had a current job and it wasn't complete horrible.   During those 4 months he kept his eyes out on different opportunities and still applied for a few other jobs.

Since it would require a move we were lived thinking we might move.  Our lease was even up during this time.  The day before the offer we signed a new lease (with an out if we moved OOT).  It felt like it took forever, but in the end this job was so worth the wait.

    Good luck.  Waiting sucks.
