Wedding Woes

Hello Thursday

It's rainy and blah here.  At least it's not cold.

I can never boil eggs correctly.  Last night I was determined but ended up forgetting about them.  They boiled for about a half hour before I started smelling something.  We'll still color them, but definitely won't eat them.

Re: Hello Thursday

  • I have the same problem with eggs, I have 6 dozen to boil for all the grandkids tonight.  I hope I do better than last year, they weren't done enough so even though we all had fun coloring them we had to throw them away):

We have a chance of severe storms and tornados here today and tomorrow.  But last night we had our church egg hunt and the weather was perfect!  I hope it is here Sunday evening when we have ours for family.

I'm so the anti-project mom.  I don't do pumpkin carving, color easter eggs, etc.  I never liked that shit as a kid.  I sometimes feel bad because I know the kids would enjoy it, but then I remember that I'll be the one to clean the mess and then I check my guilt.

I'm behind on all of Easter.  I was going to run out tonight, but it looks like we're going to be having some crazy weather between 6p and 8p.  I guess I'll have to do it tomorrow night.  (I work Saturday and I have to pre-make Easter dishes after I'm done working.) (AND we need to start getting ready for our trip next weekend.  Having to work this weekend is really mucking things up...Not enough hours.)

DefConn and I 'overslept' this morning.  I was tired and he was sound asleep (next to me) at our normal wake-up time, so I decided to let him sleep until he woke up.

Oh and DefConn pointed out that my toes "need to be fixed"...since the polish from my last pedi is almost all chipped off.  Yeah, so need to find time for that too.  Thanks kid...LOL
  • I have to squeeze in eggs somewhere, taw.  Either tomorrow afternoon (DC closes at 3), or sometime Saturday.  Both kids love egg salad, so there's that.  (DS won't touch scrambled or fried, but give him some egg salad--made with Duke's mayonnaise, of course--and he'll go to town.)

So glad this is the last day of the work week.  DH and I are both off tomorrow, and we're sending both kids to daycare so we can sit and plot how to get our own thing going so we can eventually leave the corporate world.  And then have lunch at the wine bar, sans enfants.  And then hopefully time for BCBC before we have to pick them up.

DD and I are baking our traditional lamb cake on Saturday, though that's going to be a tight squeeze.  We drew the 10:00 game this Saturday (plus we're on the hook for snack), and by the time we get home, it will pretty much be time for DS's lunch and nap.  Hopefully we'll be able to bake while he's napping.

It was so beautiful here last night that we ate on the screened porch, even though we just threw out our old patio set and haven't gotten a new one yet.  We literally got to see the cows come home--there's pastureland on the other side of our nature trail/woods.  (I'm sure it will all be houses ten years from now, so we're enjoying it while it lasts.)  DS was mooing at the cows.  :)
  • YES to plotting leaving the corporate world.  DH and I also make those plans.

And LOL at your DS mooing at the cows.  So cute.

Eggs go like this: put in cold water and start to boil.  When I hear the water going turn to low and set the timer for 10 minutes.  When that goes off put under cold running water until the water shuts off.

I never eat the ones we color because they've been in and out of cold/heat.

  • @tawillers - bring the eggs to a boil with the water. once the water is boiling, turn off the heat and let them sit for 15 minutes. If you have an electric kettle it works even better. Put the eggs in, cover with water, turn on, once it dings give them 15 minutes. Perfect boiled eggs.

PF has a horrible cold. I'm stressing about the move and speaking to old family friends who know the new city and have early intervention connections.
  • Oh after the 15 minutes remove from the water immediately. I never put them under cold water only because according to Alton Brown (and my own experience) that gives you the green around the yolk.

I nod at Dixie's directions...those are what I use.  I used to do the cold water....it helps with the peeling sometimes.

The difference between yesterday and today is remarkable.  Yesterday I couldn't hardly stand to be in my own skin.  Today?  I'm just fine.  Stupid hormones.

Also, I need to talk with H about "the topic" (BABY) but he's never available, as in---he has been going out with friends after work, so talking when he gets home is out, and then tells me that he has plans for Friday afternoon (which is usually when our weekends start to coincide), so that is out.  I suppose a Friday at midnight ambush is in the works.  *shrug*  I guess thems the breaks.

Also ALSO, I am weirdly thankful that one of his best coworker/friends is a woman who most likely has spent a lot of time talking to him telling him that he needs to slow his roll on stuff.  I know she's level headed and helpful, so that makes me happy.  Now...to see how that works out.

Oh and that "friend" stuff?  Yeah, that was me...DUH.  You all knew it...I was just having a HORRIBLE day.  *crosses out with red "X"*
  • I have to admit, I did look up the directions this time.  Last year they were underboiled.  Yuck.

I thought to myself "I should set a timer" as I filled the pan but still walked away from the stove after turning on the burner.  Definitely setting a timer next year.

I have hardboiled eggs for breakfast 6 days a week.  The only time I've had green is when I don't set the timer.

It's raining and gross.  Today is movie and popcorn day.  We're having grilled cheese and soup for dinner.  We went to the store for eggs to decorate, and cheese, and bread for dinner.  I got popcorn, coffee, and Cadbury eggs.  Oops.

  • I need to do eggs. But more for doing things like having them on hand for breakfasts.

I'm in a better mood than yesterday. I'm sure I have a million errands I could be doing, but screw it. I'm not looking forward to Easter as we said we'd go to spend it with DH's family. Saturday I am going shopping with my mom for a MOB dress which I'm sure will be thrilling.

What I'm currently working on (that I had no patience for yesterday):

Before and After (almost finished for this layer)
