It's a fist in the air kind of day!

Confession time: I haven't done any running since my 10k in February. Not a mile. Because I started saying, "Eh, I've worked hard, I'll give myself a week before I get back into it." Then a week turned into two, then into three, and now it's been over a month since I ran. I can feel myself turning into a lump. Okay, maybe I'm not, but I sure don't feel as healthy or awesome about myself.

This morning I thought, "I'll start running next week for sure." Then some part of my brain said, "Next week? Why do you want to wait until next week? You should start now!" So before I left for work, I laid out my workout clothes and found the armband for my phone so that I have no excuse. When I get home from work, I'm running.

So throughout the work day I'll be psyching myself up for it, so hopefully by the time I get home instead of thinking, "I have to run," I'll be thinking, "I get to run. I get to listen to my podcasts for an hour and feel super awesome about myself and build good habits and hopefully lose a few pounds of fat."

What's making you pump your fist in the air today, friends?

Re: It's a fist in the air kind of day!

  • That's a great attitude! I love it! Going to the gym is my destressing time, so I end up looking forward to working with my trainer or going to spin.

Today is my Friday! Woo hoo!
  • Yay for getting out and running! I need to go and you've inspired me to not skip it tonight and get my butt out there. It doesn't hurt that it's also going to be 65 degrees today (for the first time in 4 months!) so I really have no excuse.

It's also my Friday @climbingwife! Plus I have Monday off as well so it's a nice little four day weekend for me. Too bad it's going back down into the 30s with snow this weekend - so much for using the time to get the outside of our house cleaned up.

  • That's awesome! Congrats on finishing a 10k also! I REALLY need to start exercising more often.

My fist in the air moment is that I'm off today and tomorrow! DH has his annual guy's bea ch trip this weekend so I'm doing laundry so he has clothes. I'm proud of myself for already starting a load of clothes by 8:00. I'm also cleaning the house today and mowing the yard tomorrow.

  • @emmaaa I'm so bitter that you have to mow the lawn already, and mine still has 2 feet of snow on it hahahah

  • @jenna8984 Definitely one of the perks of living in the south!

One of our news stations posted an April Fools prank abo it expecting 10 inches of snow here next week. You can bet people were all up in arms!

  • Yeah! Good job on getting motivated!

I got all my thank-yous written from my shower this past Saturday, and right now I'm addressing the last 4 to get them sent today. Small victories!

  • That's awesome! Congrats on your 10K.

My fist in the air moment was last night when DH and I finally got our new TV set up. He did most of the work, so his fist is probably flying higher than mine, but it was still fun. And damn is that TV sexy.

We also got most of our nursery furniture set up (minus a glider) on Tuesday, so that's a relief. I wanted to get it done now before stuff gets hard for me.

Awesome!  Good for you.  I haven't been on a long run since my half marathon in February .  .  . 2014.  Granted plantar fascitis and terrible weather have had a lot to do with that, and I've been on my bike quite a bit, but still--the sooner you get back into it, the easier it will be.   Maybe your post can be the kick in the butt I need to sign up for another 5K.
  • Yay for motivation!!! I've been trying to get back in running too so I feel you, although it's been much longer for me. I hate running the cold. Brr.

I saw something on Humans of NY the other day that I really liked: "Focus on the results and you'll never make progress. Focus on the progress and you'll see results."

That's been my mantra in getting back into running :)

  • I've NEVER been a runner. I suck at it and I never cared to do it much. But over the past few months, I've decided that I want to start running. So I did. Last week I started running to the top of my street and back, about 2 miles in all. Its quite hilly, over 200 ft in grade over the mile-long stretch. I started slow, mostly walking, and by day three I was actually running the first 6/10 of the mile without stopping.

Now I've joined the World Gym by my house, found a friend from work to be an accountability partner, and lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. And I actually enjoy working out.

Both fists in the air, Rocky style!!

  • I need to get back into running.  Ever since I moved here I keep trying to get back into it, but something always comes up to ruin the schedule.

I had started going to the on-campus gym when the semester started, but then I stopped going because homework and stuff.  Plus I kind of hate running on a treadmill, I prefer outside, but we don't have the weather here for that during winter.

Now that we're getting warmer days again, I'll have to see if I can start again and stick to it this time.

  • I did it! Ran about 50 minutes after work and then did some resistance band exercises. Hope I'll be sore tomorrow :) It was honestly super tough, tougher than I thought it would be (I guess going over a month without exercise really does make you soft) but when it was over I felt GREAT. Thanks everyone for your encouragement and good luck on your own goals!
