Figgie Shoes!

Hi, ladies! I'm posting because I have fallen in love with the idea of getting a pair of Figgie shoes painted for my wedding. For those unfamiliar, here's the link to her website: http://www.figgieshoes.com

Basically, you send her your wedding shoes, and she hand-paints designs, words, doodles, etc. that reflect you, your FI, and your wedding. They range from very elegant to super cutesy, and I'm a little obsessed with scrolling through all her work.

I've been kind of sad about wedding shoes because I'm seeing these gorgeous heels everywhere, but FI only has a few inches on me so I've decided to go with flats. Figgie shoes have gotten me excited again; I'm thinking of sending her light blue flats and having her paint in black and white - they'd be my something blue!

The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger is because just to have the shoes painted in simple black and white is $500. There are add-ons like crystals, colored paint, etc. for an extra cost, but $500 is quite enough, haha. I plan to keep them as a keepsake afterwards, and wear them on anniversaries.

My questions are ... Have you ever had a pair of Figgie shoes? Does $500 sound absolutely obscene for a pair of shoes, or do you think it would be worth it if it's the "one thing" I have my heart set on and plan to keep as a souvenir post-wedding? Were there any indulgent purchases you made, and were they worth it or did you ultimately regret spending the money?

Re: Figgie Shoes!

  • Its  a cute idea but 500.00 is way more then i would pay for shoes that im only going to wear once.
  • It is a lot for something to only wear once. As I said, I would like to wear them for anniversaries, special date nights, etc. :)

  • Way too much in my mind, even to wear for anniversaries. Could that $500 help accommodate your FSMIL family

I think it's really silly. Is your dress full length? Plus, what if you get outfits that don't match the shoes for your anniversaries? If you're going to spend that kind of money, it should be on sometime you'll wear regularly, not twice a year.
  • @kvruns The guest list situation was more of a venue-size issue than a financial one, but we were able to figure it out this afternoon thanks to some great suggestions.

Maybe it is a little too much for shoes - I suppose I'll wait until closer to the day and see what makes sense financially. Thanks for the honesty!

I don't think it's even too much for shoes, I think it's too much for shoes that aren't really that wearable. Get some fabulous nude Loubs or something.
  • I would never spend $500 on shoes, even if I planned to wear them every day.

  • I would never spend that much on a pair of shoes. Even my wedding dress didn't cost that much.  Both pairs of shoes (mine didn't come in time so I bought a second pair for cheap to wear at my dress fitting), my wedding dress and my alterations cost less than a pair of those shoes.

I can't think of any indulgent things we did for our wedding. Everything we did was pretty inexpensive.
  • I wonder, if it is just the painting of the shoes that has you ooing and ahing, is their a local place that you could take them to, or an art student? Of course, I wouldn't try this on a shoe that already cost a lot since it could go wrong- but if its a less expensive shoe that you could replace easily and wanted to give it a shot?

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's a pretty cool and unique idea. There's gotta be a super talented art student around that could probably do similar work for a fraction of the cost. If you're heart is set on the idea you should call a local art school and see what they say. Worth a shot!
