Ombre Dresses

Hi Everyone! I am looking for some thoughts and some feedback! I'm having a November wedding and just attended a wedding where the bridesmaids each had a different shade of purple-pink to look like an ombre effect. My colors are traditional fall with the girls wearing brown. What does everyone think of having seven different shades of brown and then me in all white (obviously). All thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!

Re: Ombre Dresses

  • Seems like a lot of trouble to go to for the sake of the short time they'll be standing in the correct order. It wouldn't be worth the hassle to me.

But if you like it and your bridesmaids don't mind, go for it.

  • are there 7 different shades of brown to be bought? To be honest I'm not sure I would notice it was supposed to be an ombre effect if I were a guest.  I'd just think hmmm a bunch of girls in different brown dresses.

This.  And even if I did notice that it was supposed to be an ombre effect I'm sorry but I would kind of roll my eyes a bit.  I mean it is bad enough that some brides freak out over the exact dress BMs should wear but to get to the point where you are trying to go for an ombre effect, it just screams control freak to me.

  • The whole ombre trend has overstayed its welcome, IMO.

  • I would skip the ombre deal and either pick one shade of brown, or let them do full mismatch.

  • My best friend did this for her wedding, but with different shades of blue. The co-MOH and I both wore navy blue and each girl wore a lighter color down the line. It actually looked quite pretty and luckily enough, we were all fine with the color blue we needed to wear. Was it a little micro-managing? Yes but really ended up being fine. We were allowed to pick the style dress we wanted so if you do go the whole ombre route, at least let them pick the style dress if you're going to assign colors.
