Is ivory always the same color?

Hi there!

I purchased my wedding gown in ivory from Watters (style 3026b) and am now looking for a pair of shoes to go with it.

I found lovely Badgley Mischka heels that also come in ivory

However, I'm wondering what everyone's experience has been with the color ivory - have you all found it to be the same shade of white no matter the brand? Or does it seem to vary based on the manufacturer? I'm afraid it's the latter, but would love to hear from other brides!

  • Shades will always vary from fabric to fabric and manufacture to manufacture.

That said, Bridal Ivory is nearly always just off white. Your dress is long, so no one will see the shoes anyway. They'll go.

  • Yes, ivory will vary from fabric to fabric.  Even if it is the same color, the type of fabric can affect the look of the color so a satin ivory can look different from the same ivory in taffeta.  Etc, etc.

But most ivories will go together just fine.  They may not match perfectly but they certainly won't clash.  And if your dress is long no one will see your shoes hardly at all so it really doesn't matter.

  • Yeah even with the same *type* of fabric, ivory can differ. My dress is ivory tulle, and I was trying to match a veil, but the ivory veil was too yellow, I ended up going with diamond white. So no ivory is not always the same. And you can wear whatever colored shoes you want!

Honestly though, I wouldn't worry about matching your shoes perfectly. No one will really see them anyway (assuming your dress is long), and even if they do, it'll look just fine.

  • That's like asking if "yellow" comes in different shades. Yes, it does.

I would just make sure you can return the shoes if you don't end up liking the way they look. I had an ivory dress and I wore bright green shoes - never had to worry about an exact match!
