Wedding Party

Pregnant Bridesmaid.

I am in a wedding in the fall and will be six months pregnant. The dresses are from David's Bridal. My pre-pregnancy size in the dress was a 12.

Thanks :)

Ummm, what are you asking here???
  • wondering what size dress I should order. Sorry, totally spaced on actually asking a question.
  • Can you ask how far in advance you have to order? At 6 months pregnant I still fit into my size 6 jeans. I didn't start wearing "maternity" clothes until I was 8 months pregnant. You will have no idea what size you will be until closer to the wedding date.
  • This is such a personal question I doubt anyone can really answer it for you. Just because someone here went from a 12-14 doesn't mean you will.  Pregnancy is different for everyone.  My mom gained 20 lbs with me, and 60 lbs with my brother.  Wait until it's closer to the wedding date to order or get a dress.

  • It also totally depends on the style of the dress.  I'm nine months pregnant and still fit into some of my non-maternity dresses, but there's no way in hell I could get some of my others on.
  • This isn't something we can answer for you. Everyone carries different and not every pregnant person is the same size. I've had friends gain 15 pounds and some gain 50.
  • Sorry, internet strangers can't answer this for you.

I'm 5 months pregnant right now and just last week I started unbuttoning the top button of my jeans. This is my first pregnancy though. No idea what your experience will be like. Ask David's Bridal - you're not their first pregnant customer.

A lot of this depends on the dress fabric as well. Satin isn't very forgiving. Jersey can be quite forgiving.

  • Have you been pregnant before?  If so, what were you wearing when you were 6 months along?  Were you in maternity clothes?  Regular clothes?  If so, what size were you wearing?

If this is your first pregnancy well then you are going to have to talk to a consultant at the bridal salon.  I am sure they have had to order dresses for pregnant gals all the time.  Most likely they will have you order a pretty large for your size so that it can be altered down.  Also, I hope the dress picked is pregnant belly forgiving.

  • If you are allowed to buy any dress in a specific color.  I would wait until about 2 months before and then buy the dress 1 or 2 sizes bigger, depending on the cut.  David's Bridal usually has quick turnaround in getting the dress to you, if they don't happen to have your size and color in stock.
  • Fortunately this is David's Bridal, and you can easily order a dress 4-6 weeks before the wedding and have it in your hands in plenty of time.  I would wait until the absolute last second, and order 1-2 sizes larger than you are at that time.  And then I would get it altered to fit.  You can always make something smaller.  You can't always make something bigger.

Another decent option is if the BM dresses are short, buy the similar style in a long version...then your seamstress will have a bunch of extra fabric to work with if you're very big.

FWIW, at 6 months the only maternity clothes i really needed were jeans.  if the dress is empire waist and a flowy fabric, you may be able to wear your normal size or one size larger.  But that's not true for everyone.  And if the dress is satin or fitted it's an entirely different story.

I know someone who was a bridesmaid while pregnant, the bride and her selected a dress in a very similar style to the other bridesmaids except that it was more adjustable (if i remember correctly, she could tie it up the back so it could just be tied as loose or tight as needed for the day) this gave her a lot more freedom in wearing the dress
