What to wear?

Knotties - help!
What do you wear to a spring evening wedding when no specific dress code is listed? I appreciated not being "instructed" how to dress, but I'm not sure if I should dress more formal because it's evening, or if they don't care since they didn't specify anything.
It's at an old mansion type building that has been turned into a venue and museum, if that helps. Ceremony starts at 6, cocktail hour and reception to follow.
Any insight would be appreciated!

No no, I'm kidding (sort of).

I'd probably wear a knee-length cocktail dress. A wrap something if it's cold. Heels. Nice jewelry. I might consider wearing something colorful or patterned.

  • Based on that venue and the time of day, yes, you should err on the side of more formal.  Cocktail dress for women, suit for men.
  • Cocktail dress and heels.
  • Cocktail dress.

  • Thanks ladies - that's what I was thinking.

They didn't specify anything, because unless it's black tie, they shouldn't specify. You use the invitation style and venue as a clue. Mansion in the evening equals cocktail dress.
