Miami?

So we're leaving for our honeymoon next week Sunday (yay!).  We're spending a week in Orlando, and four days in Miami.

We're in Orlando for WDW and Universal Studios, so we're good on that front - but we're going to Miami to lay on the beach and relax.  Any suggestions for low-key activities or restaurants?  We're staying right on Lummus Park in Miami Beach.  We're good with walking all over the place, and love museums, etc.  We will NOT have a car.

Re: Miami?

  • I ate at Big Pink in Miami Beach and it was delicious!  It's a block off the beach.  I also ate at a Japanese place, but I can't recall the name, that was in walkable outdoor mall area.  They too had really good food.

I was there for work and we stayed near the airport, so I don't really have many other suggestions!  But enjoy it!

I have no advice, I just want to post a gif from the song Miami.

The title of this thread instantly started a repeating "Welcome to Miami! Bienvenido a Miami!"
  • J already thinks he's Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice (the Colin Farrell version).  He's beyond excited right now.  I probably shouldn't show him that gif.

  • Yes! FI and I went to Miami a few years ago and are going back for our honeymoon. We found this great restaurant in Little Havana called Versailles. Really, really good Cuban food, and it's reasonably priced. We might just eat lunch there every day.

  • I lived in Miami for years. Versailles is as authentic as Cuban food gets, but tough to get to without a car. You'll be staying near Lincoln Road, which has a ton of restaurants, and Espanola Way is a ton of fun at night. You'll also be near the tower of freedom which is an interesting museum. It might be worth taking a can over to Key Biscayne (15 minutes) to go on a tour of Vizcaya.
  • MsSparky said it nicely. I would, however, get a car for one day and take it to Holiday Park for some airboat/Everglades fun. Or, you can do it on your drive from O-town to Miami since it's on the way. You won't be able to see "real" miami without a car.

I follow a NYC italian chef who is currently building a house in miami beach, and posts some amazing food. Check him out https://instagram.com/frankprisinzano/ Also, Anthony Bourdain just did a special in Miami for Parts Unknown, found here: http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/02/travel/bourdain-miami-travel-journal/

  • Thanks ladies!  This is all awesome.  We're taking the Amtrak from Orlando, but we were discussing renting a car for one day to see the Everglades/Key Biscayne.

@OliveOilsMom - I checked out the menu for Big Pink, and now I want to eat all the things.
