Social Media Etiquette Fail

edited May 2015 in Wedding Etiquette Forum
I feel like we need a permanent board where people can add their discoveries of Facebook/Instagram/social media fails. They seem to be coming up a lot more and they're just too funny not to share. Today a girl I follow on IG posted a picture of invitations in sealed envelopes and the caption said "The first of many invites to go out over the next few months!" Their wedding date is December 5th 2015.

ETF the date to accommodate posters from other countries :)

Let her send them, they'll just get lost and people will forget.
  • I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume these ones are STDs.... trying

I totally misread this! Here, we do Day/Month/Year so I thought she was just super flakey sending invites out for today- 12 May 2015!

  • A law school classmate just posted her wedding website on Facebook. As if that isn't bad enough (obviously not all of her 433 Facebook friends are invited), the website is horrible. The "Our Proposal" section has a not insignificant portion of bolded and underlined text reminding everyone that it took her FI SEVEN YEARS to decide to propose.

The "ceremony" section warns guests that there are no bathrooms at the historic chapel where they're getting married. Also they have four wedding registries, which seems a bit excessive to me.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker

  • I had a friend on facebook that had a countdown every day from 6 MONTHS up to her wedding. Like this:

"OMG GUYZZZ. 184 days til the WEDDING!! Send in your RSVPS ASAP BITCHEZZZZ." Not kidding. And she was like, 35.

Me too. I'm thinking, That's today! I often have to reset for the American date standard.

I saw a girl who I'm not FB  friends with, "remind" her guest to RSVP to her wedding by posting to their walls. I saw this because I'm friends with them and it shows up in my feed. *facepalm*
  • This morning, someone I know from HS posted about how excited she was that her baby brother and his FI put together their wedding website. And then she included to link, asking everyone to check it out and provide feedback. What??

  • NWR but I had this guy I know very tangentally but am somehow still FB friends with post this status:

"Today is an amazing day. I became both an Uncle and an Aunt. Congratulations to X and Y for their baby girl and A and B for baby boy!"

I wish it was a joke- this is a guy that when I suggested going to Croatia for a beach holiday said "I'm not really interested in going to Africa"....

I finally had to change my security settings so one of FSS's friends moms would stop posting on my timeline. Every few days there was a new tacky/bad/rude wedding idea. Finger print guest books, burlap and lace, links to cash registries, etc. All of the post are accompanied by " this would look so great at your wedding. I can't wait!"

Not only do the ideas suck, she isn't invited to the wedding. I've tried telling her we are trying to keep the guest list small, but it hasn't clicked. In fact the last thing she posted was a link to a bridesmaids dress that she thought she would look great in...

  • A friend posted a "vaguebook" a few weeks back advising everyone that they should keep their calendars open in September on a specific for "general merriment".

Someone replied "can't wait" and that person was not invited. Awkward turtle.
