Platinum Weddings

Has anyone seen this show?  It was on the FYI channel this morning but apparently the episodes are circa 2008 or so (maybe originally aired on WETV?).

I find it fascinating.  One couple spent more on table linens than I did for my entire wedding!  It was absolutely beautiful.  And my dream place: Colorado in the snow.

Another episode I saw showed an Indian wedding.  It was so incredibly beautiful and there was so much food!

They both appeared to be concerned about hosting their guests very well and there was no tacky.  There was just so much wow.

Re: Platinum Weddings

  • I remember that show! There's a whole group of wedding-centric shows that used to be on TV that have fizzled out, "Platinum Weddings" was definitely one of them. I was in high school when it was airing so I'll be honest and say that it temporarily skewed my vision of what weddings were, haha.

  • I watched that once. The couple spent over $100,000 on flowers. I didn't watch it again. That was just insane, in my mind.

Yes, I remember watching them! That show was the classier version of bridezillas if you take the price of things out of the equation.

  • I remember that show. It was from the mid-00s and I watched it a few times when I was like 14 imagining my own wedding day (which is going to be like the opposite of anything featured on that show). I don't remember it being super popular, however. Dina from Real Housewives of NJ was on an episode once.

I remember seeing a few episodes.  It was all so unbelievably pretty, but also so much money.

  • I watched when it was on TV, yes.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I've never seen that but I used to watch My Fair Wedding with my law school roommate.  It was the perfect combination of tacky and beautiful.  And we both had crushes on David until we found out he cheated on his husband, which has kind of soured me on him.  Also, David Tutera now sells his own line of burlap and lace wedding decor at Marshall's, which is... unfortunate.  That's the exact kind of stuff he would rip out of the hands of a bride on that show.

  • I caught a Platinum re-run just the other day. The wedding was at the bride's home and still they managed to spend a million dollars. They made custom "living chandeliers" out of yellow roses. They actually dug out the fountain from the circular driveway to put in the ceremony tent. I hope they put it back later, sheesh.

As fun as it is to watch, it seems so wasteful. At least it pumps money into the economy and that's all I can really say about that much extravagance. I'm sure the florist was set for the year after that wedding.

I think that's why I was fascinated by it.  One item in these weddings could have paid for all of mine! I guess everybody has their own tastes, it's just so vastly different from mine I couldn't look away :)

Bolded: that's just crazy.  One of the ones I watched (the Indian wedding) I could just look at what they had and see why it cost so much.  I really enjoyed that one.  They definitely spared no expense, but it wasn't tacky expensive.

The other one I watched I was trying to figure out where all the money went.  They spent so much money and they wanted a ballroom to look earthy.
