TMI - periods/venting

So - I wasn't supposed to start my cycle until monday. Which was awesome because I always want some sex before I start. So I told Fi we could have a nekkid sunday since we have no plans at all. It was going to be perfect!

Then Thursday night I started spotting. Then friday came and it was a little more than spotting. Then today its like satan's waterfall. Seriously - heaviest flow I've had in years. Maybe this just means that it will be done by tomorrow and we can still have nekkid Sunday - but I'm not holding my breath.

Also - I was on the fence about the Diva Cup . . . . but now that I'm changing my tampon every 2 hours. Or if I sneeze. I am going to purchase one this week. I hope they are as wonderful as everyone says!

Anyone use a cup other than the Diva cup? Or have tried multiple and prefer one over another? Most reviews I've read say that the Diva is #1.

Re: TMI - periods/venting

  • I've heard the Mooncup is excellent and have heard it's better than the Divacup. I have the DC and rarely use it. It's so hard for me to remove.

  • I'm having spotting issues myself. I just got an IUD a month ago, and I've had at least minor spotting every day. My OB prescribed 800mg of ibuprofin 3x a day for three days to get it to stop. The first round didn't appear to work, so I'm trying again...

I tried the diva cup back in college. It didn't work for me because I'm prone to yeast infections and I started getting them all the time. I did use a disposable version back then, too. I think it was called Instead? But that was over ten years ago, so I don't know whether or not they still make them.

I got an IUD about 2 years ago, and it took about 3 months for my body to adjust to everything, so I had spotting among some other things. After that I noticed my period lasted about 3 days, the first and last were pretty much just spotting and then one day of a heavier flow. Now I just spot for one day, and that's my whole period. The other day I took a pregnancy test just to make sure.

I know this won't be the case for everyone but it definetly took me a while to adjust to an IUD.

  • I have a love/hate with my DivaCup.  I believe Moon Cups are the version used in the UK, though maybe you can get them here now.  I've tried the SoftCups (disposable ones) and I love them, but they don't fit me right, so they'd pop out of place on occasion.  Be patient with the DivaCup.  It took me about 6 months to get it right

  • I really liked Softcups.
Now I have an IUD and very lightly spot every few months, thank the gods.

Yeah, it may take awhile. And I know a lot of women stop getting their period at all. That is my dream. Fingers crossed!

Yup, took me a few months.

  • I have for sure considered an IUD - but we will be TTC shortly after we get married (so a little over a year and a half) and I just don't know if thats enough time to make it worth the procedure.

With how mine went, it would have been worth it to me. It was uncomfortable during the procedure (~5 minutes?) and I was a little sore for the rest of the day. Then 3 months and I'm fully adjusted. Insurance paid for anything but the copay so I am saving about $50 a month since I'm no longer on the pill. BUT like I said it will be different for everyone!

Cost would for sure be something I would have to consider - I am currently not on anything - we just use NFP and condoms.

And I have a really pretty crappy insurance that is a high
deductible plan - so it may not cover enough of the cost to be worth it. I have an appointment next month at my Gyno so I'll talk to her about the options and possible cost/sideeffects ect.

Check with your plan to see what birth control methods are covered at no cost due to health care reform. Would be good to know before your gyn appointment

Agreed. Also check with the way you get your Rxs. For example my BCP is $45 (I can't take the generic) if I buy it month to month through the store pharmacies, but if I order it through the mail order where I get 3 months at a time it's free.

When I had that problem on depo, I think I had to take large doses of vitamin c with it as well? Maybe look into that?

I'll ask about that next. Thanks.
