Lost gift?

I had my bridal shower the first weekend in May, and got married at the end of may. A few days before the shower my friend texted to ask me if (then) FI and I had a favorite restaurant. I gave her the name of a restaurant group.

At the shower she gave me a card that said we would soon be receiving a gift card in the mail from this restaurant group. We still haven't recieved it. I checked online, and it's very easy to get a gift card from this restaurant group--- you can do it all online or call up.

I suppose it's possible my friend forgot to get us one but.... Seems a bit unlikely given the specific card/ conversation we had?

Should I talk to my friend about it? Or try talking to the restaurant group first and then talk to my friend if I don't get any information out of them? I don't want her money to have gone to waste, but I don't want her to feel uncomfortable if she forgot or decided she wasnt going to get it for us after all.

Re: Lost gift?

  • If it were me... I'd very casually ask my friend about it over e-mail (I wouldn't put her on the spot in person). I would say, "Hey, this is really awkward for me to ask, but you said you were sending a gift card from [restaurant group]. That is such a thoughtful gift! But, I haven't received it. I'm only asking because if you spent money on it, I wouldn't want your money to be lost! If you didn't order it that's totally cool too, but I just wanted to check on it."
    Ditto this.

Yeah, I'd casually ask your friend about it. Mostly because if she did send it, that would suck if it was lost. Or, she thinks she sent you a gift but hasn't received a TY note yet. Not that one should ever expect a gift, but since she TOLD you to look for something in the mail, I think it's fine to ask.
  • Thanks guys! I texted her! Still waiting on a response, but she's always really slow to respond.
