Dark grey suits and mismatched bridemaids

Hi! I am getting married October 3rd this year. I have four bridemaids and they all have a different dress in a different color that go together great! They are all different shades of neutral/champagne/mocha. For the guys we were thinking a very dark charcoal grey. My sister had an idea that the guys tie should match the color of the dress of the girl they would be standing with. Would this be too much? Should we do just one shade of the neutral for all the ties? And what do you think of no vest/ dark grey vest/ neutral vest to match the tie? Sorry this is a lot, but I'm having troubles deciding. Thanks!!

  • I think having the ties match the dresses sounds great! As far as the vests go, I'd say either no vest, or vest that matches the suit. I think vests that match ties/dresses look a little too prom-y.

  • I think BMs matching GMs looks like prom. Especially if you add a vest! They're not each other's date.

Personally, I'd just go with the same neutral for all of them. Or the same colors as the dresses, but specific NOT assign them to the matching BM. It'd be cool to have them all mismatching but in the same theme.

  • Suit vests are usually made from the same material as the suit.  They are completely optional.  Satin vests are only worn with tuxedos or tailcoats.  I agree with southernbelle0915 on the matchy-matchy thing.

  • So, you asked the bridesmaids to pick a dress in a shade of neutral/champagne/mocha? Why not just ask the groomsmen to pick a dark grey suit and a tie in a shade of neutral/champagne/mocha?

I had the bridal party women wear a jewel-tone dress, and the men wear a dark gray or black suit and a jewel-tone tie. We did have to give a lot of examples of what a jewel tone was, but it all came out great.
  • I also think matching looks too prom-ish.
