Toppings for sundae bar? (XP)

I'm planning to have a sundae bar (as well as cake) at my reception.  There are approximately 90 adults and 5 kids.  The ice cream is only vanilla and chocolate and the venue provides the chocolate sauce and cherries, but I'm providing the other toppings.

How much of each topping do you think is a good amount?

How many bags of M&Ms, chocolate chips, reeses pieces?

Any other toppings that you think I should include?

  • Gummy bears.  But I've also been known to have a gummy bear sundae with no ice cream...

Not sure on amounts.  Can you go bulk??

  • Sprinkles.

Nuts (if no one is allergic)

Other flavors of sauce (strawberry, caramel, etc.)

  • It sounds like you have the chocolate fans covered, but I love fresh fruit on a Sundae.
I did a Sundae bar for a shower and had chocolate or caramel sauce, crumbled brownies, crumbled ginger snaps, sliced strawberries, bananas, a sliced peach and ginger compote, almonds, walnuts, crunchy granola, whipped cream, sprinkles (for pretty) and maraschino cherries because it isn't a sundae without maraschino cherries.
If I remember right, I estimated a quarter cup of fruit per person, a tablespoon of each crunchy topping, 2-3 tablespoons of caramel or chocolate sauce.
I want it all back, right now. I need ice cream.

How big are the sundae cups? Depending on that then 1-2 Tbs per candy topping. Can you do a fruit topping like strawberries or banana?
  • I will have to ask the venue if I can bring non-packaged things like strawberries, etc.  Because it's a catered place, I think they may have restrictions on potential contamination?  This is NY, so I would not be surprised!

I don't know how big the cups are, or about any potential allergies.

  • I would definitely add caramel and fruit if you can.

  • I second caramel, sprinkles, fruit, and gummy bears. My all-time favorite ice cream topping in marshmallow cream. It just makes everything heavenly.

  • I am glad that you will have cake too, as someone who is lactose intolertant.  My favorite topping from when I could eat ice cream is crushed oreo cookies.

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought cake was safe either!  Non-baker here for sure...

The venue owner did let me know she also has ice pops for the lactose intolerant.

    All of this.

  • Someone else said to me that marshmallow may be too messy?  Then again, I just ordered 4.5 lbs of peanut butter sauce because I want to eat that much of it!!

I don't see how it'd be any messier than chocolate or caramel sauce. It's about the same consistency and can be served the same way. *shrug*

Not only that, but I feel like it would stain less than any of those other things lol

Cake is fine for me at least. I have to stay away from ice cream and yogurt mostly. But everyone's lactose intolerant is different. But ice pops sound good. I actually have FlaVorIce at home in my freezer now.

It'd be nice to include some fruity things, like strawberry topping. Oreos are a must.
