Game of Thrones (spoilers)

I need to talk about this week's episode! :)

The infamous 9th episode of the season- I know some people were disappointed with the episode, but I liked it.  Although I still hear Shireen's screams in my head- I can't imagine how emotional that scene was to actually film...  and just as I was starting to like Stannis, poof- he's dead to me again.  Ugh.  I also think Davos is going to flip out when he returns and finds out what happens...

Can anyone refresh my memory of the guy Arya was stalking?  Clearly, he's a bad dude, but I honestly don't remember him- or what he did to her.

And the final scene- as a whole- was nuts.  Apparently it deviated a lot from the books (I didn't read the books, so I don't know), but it was pretty cool.  I jumped off the couch as Drogon was getting speared- I didn't think I could watch- but I was happy to see him fly away- with his passenger.  Pretty cool.  I liked the final shot of the four of them in the arena looking up- their faces were perfect.

I am nervous for next week's final episode.  I know the show is deviating a lot from the books, but I still think they're going to hold true to the Jon Snow storyline.... which makes me nervous for Sunday.  And apparently, the infamous Cersei "walk" scene is coming soon, too?  Should make a lot of viewers pretty happy, lol :)

Re: Game of Thrones (spoilers)

  • I loved the episode!!! I expected Stannis be a gigantic asshat, so I wasn't surprised, but it was still awful. But if I'm being honest, I was most excited for the scenes in Meereen. I am a total sucker for those dragons.

I couldn't figure out who that dude Arya was stalking was either, but I listen to the Nerdette "Game of Thrones Recap" podcasts, and thankfully they filled me in. I have a sneaking suspicion Meryn won't be alive much longer.

I'm really wondering how they will choose to end the season. I've heard a lot of buzz around Ollie (I'm sure it's spelled differently than the normal name, but...) and Cersei because of the books, so I am anxious for that to come up. I am also hoping we will see a fight at Winterfell, because if Stannis and Ramsey both survive this season I might throw a brick at my TV.
  • I love the dynamic between Tyrion and Daenerys. Maybe I'm biased because Tyrion is by far my favorite character but whatever. I've never read the books either and I avoid spoilers and pretty much any online thing involving the show because I like to be surprised, so I thought it was awesome when those two met.

And yeah, Stannis is a bitch. I never know whose "side" I'm on because right when a character seems to redeem themselves, they turn completely vile again. I actually like Cersei, though, in a "it's fun to hate her" kind of way.

Last week's episode was super intense too. When it ended, H and I were both quiet for a minute and then we were both like "Holy shit..." Ah so good!!

I am a total sucker for those dragonsI've had an uber girl crush on Daenerys since the beginning, so this whole Tyrion thing is actually really exciting. I'm kinda freaking done with Jorah though. I just want him gone at this point. He annoys me. And he's creepy. I know that eventually she'll HAVE to marry in order to form some sort of alliance, but I like Daenerys by her self.

I couldn't figure out who that dude Arya was stalking was either, but I listen to the Nerdette "Game of Thrones Recap" podcasts, and thankfully they filled me in. I have a sneaking suspicion Meryn won't be alive much longer. I actually think Arya is going to get into A LOT of trouble with the "Many-Faced God" for using the poison to kill someone other than the intended. It's going to show that "the girl" truly HASN'T given up her old life. Which we knew.

They will. Especially since Ramsay just led the raid that killed so many of Stannis' men. There's no way they can sum that up in one episode. I'm really hoping beyond all hope that Sansa (who I love because I feel she's grown so  much as a person in the last season and this one) is actually going to be the one to kill Ramsay, but not yet. She's already had to deal with one sadistic, tyrannical SO and I don't see her sticking around without finally starting to fight back.
I love the dynamic between Tyrion and Daenerys. Maybe I'm biased because Tyrion is by far my favorite character but whatever. I've never read the books either and I avoid spoilers and pretty much any online thing involving the show because I like to be surprised, so I thought it was awesome when those two met. They both are my favorite characters (aside from Khal, but I don't think I'm allowed to count him anymore. *still bitter*) and I think this might be one of the best potential story lines we've got left.

And yeah, Stannis is a bitch. I never know whose "side" I'm on because right when a character seems to redeem themselves, they turn completely vile again. I actually like Cersei, though, in a "it's fun to hate her" kind of way. And hate her we do. For a while I got it. She was just a mother doing anything and everything she could to protect her children. Then she just got more and more selfish as time went on. I'm glad she's at least getting a little punishment for all the shit she's done. Even if it won't last long.

Last week's episode was super intense too. When it ended, H and I were both quiet for a minute and then we were both like "Holy shit..." Ah so good!!

  • I definitely got super teary-eyed when Stannis' daughter was killed, it was so awful but I absolutely loved the ending with Danerys and her dragon coming to her rescue.

@soontobesyp - uh-oh, I haven't read the books either. What is supposed to happen to Jon?

  • I watched it last night. I didn't read the books, so I have no frame of reference, but I think it was pretty good. I love the dragons, and I love that he roasted all the sons of harpies (?). I also didnt recognize the dude in the brothel, but I assumed he was on Aryas list. So it makes sense reading this that he was the one that killed her sword teacher.

I'm just jealous that she gets to eat oysters cockles and clams all day. I mean, business didn't look very good, she had alot left over haha.

Agh!  I don't want to tell you what theories are out there and ruin it for you (even though the title DOES say spoilers, lol).  If you really want to know, it's everywhere on the internet, but honestly- I suggest hanging in there until Sunday to see what does- or doesn't!- happen.  :)
  • I know GoT has a track record for this kind of thing, and knew it was coming, but still the thing with Princess Shireen had me like

Tyrion is my favorite, and I love him and Daenerys together.  And I love that Drogon is back.  But I'm worried about how Tyrion is getting out of that mess now that Dany took off on Drogon.  And I was thinking the same thing about the oysters, @teddygirl9 !  I'll happily partake.  I think she's going to get in trouble for not dealing with the Thin Man, though.

At this point I'm just hoping someone takes out Melisandre.  It'd be extra great if Jon did it.

I haven't read the books yet, but plan to start soon.  I'm so bummed there's only one episode left!  Luckily True Detective is starting up again to fill the void.

  • I'm still upset about the end.  I wore all black today in mourning... And then realized I'm probably unhealthily attached to these fictional characters.  Haven't felt this way since Dumbledore's death.  I'm in denial.  I'll forgive Fire Ho if she brings Jon back.

The Cersei thing was so uncomfortable to watch, kudos to them for the way they did that scene. I feel like they really gave the audience the ability to feel first-hand what she was feeling, and that was really something.  Where's Margaery?  Is she still in the prison?

I got up and cheered when Theon/Reek threw that horrible chick over the balcony.  I hope that snow bank Theon/Reek and Sansa jumped into was deep.  Also, I really liked the way Sansa handled having an arrow aimed at her.

OF COURSE Brienne leaves just in time to not see the candle, but also I love her and her confrontation of Stannis.  What. A. Jerk.

Two things made me laugh out loud in the episode: 1) Jon and Sam's discussion of Sam's first time ("Very carefully...") and Tyrion's mastery of the Valyrian language ("a bit nostril").  I'm excited to see what Tyrion has in store, as well as the Dothraki and Daenerys.  She needed to lay off Drogon though, telling him to go get food.  No, he just saved your ass and got speared a bunch of times, back off.

In closing, I'd just like to reiterate: FUCK YOU, OLLIE.

  • At the close of the episode, all I could muster was a "Well then."

I've heard all about the theories that Jon Snow isn't really dead (he comes back as Azor-something, thanks to the red witch), but Kit Harrington was interviewed recently and said the producers told him he was "done."  So who knows...  I'm really holding out hope that he isn't truly gone...  I feel semi-good about it, since the Red Witch is exactly where she needs to be right now (back at the Wall).

And I'm not so sure about Stannis being dead...  remember- we didn't actually SEE it... :)  I haven't read the books, so I don't know his storyline, but he may very well still be alive...

And is Arya truly blind now?  I think I remember reading a spoiler that she does in fact go blind, but I can't remember...

There are SO many open-ended things to remember right now- does anyone know how long till Season 6?  I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning- and GoT wants me to remember all this??  Lol.

In the books Arya does, in fact, go blind.  But the order of everything is so messed up, I don't know what happens when.

The episode ended and FH just sighs and says, "did ANYthing good happen to ANYone in this episode?"

Drogon got to eat himself into a food coma???

    That's about it :)
  • The issue is that we're now caught up to the books. We all get to sit and wait for Martin to decide to publish the next one.

I'm like 101% sure Stannis is dead. I don't know why, if he was the Lord of the Light's true pick, Fire Ho didn't stick around to bring him back to life, though.

Arya. Dear, sweet, stupid Arya. I knew she'd get herself into some shit like this.

Apparently, according to my spoiler/conspiracy theory addict FI, they cut off a crucial couple of seconds of Jon's dying scene where his eyes go solid white, as if he Wargs into an animal. (That thing that Bran can do where he can spiritually embody and control an animal) FI found the pictures of the rest of the scene, but do I really believe him/them? Photoshop is oh so easily accessible. I don't know how that would save Jon, but it's gotta do something, right.

On the upside, @soontobesyp, they usually do pretty damn good on the pre-episode flashbacks. I wouldn't have remembered half of the shit going on.

Yes!  Agree on the "previouslies".  You guys helped me last week remember who that guy was that Arya wanted to kill, the previouslies allowed me to remind him.  We were both sitting there last week going, "I remember that name, I know he was on her list, what did he do again?"
  • "I hate you" - Me to my FI who has read all the books.

I seriously was so mad because he had lead me to believe that Jon is the be all end all of the series and that he was safe. UGH.

Although I did let out a pretty big whoop when Theon finally snapped out of it. I think i yelled something along the lines of ABOUT FREAKING TIME.

Im pretty upset still today. That show toys with my brain/heart

I cheered when myranda took that swan dive. I freaked at the snow jump.

Arya does go blind in the books, but it's not permanent, though it lasts quite a while.

Dany is in a bit of a predicament, but dropping that ring creates a "breadcrumb" trail. I smiled when varys showed up.

The first rider and the others of the watch need a red ho bbq session to bring back jon.

Poor myrcella... one way to spin that- the lannisters killed a daughter of house Martell when the mountain raped and murdered princess elia. Ellaria simply returned the favor
  • AH just watched it- I've read the books so I thought John getting jumped would be the finale of this season and apparently I was right.

I am 110% in the camp that John is NOT dead-dead... in the books. What Kit Harrington said makes me nervous this is one of those times when the show is diverging, especially considering the cut out the other coming-back-from-the-dead plot line (Lady Stone Heart).

A while ago a list leaked of the five characters that George R. R. Martin planned to have live through the series at least up until the conclusion (mind you, this list was literally from his earliest letters pitching GoT to the publishers so things can change). I believe the list was Tyrion, Arya, Bran, Dany and John... so I want to believe that list still reflects the ultimate plan for both the books and show.
  • Add me to the list of people who thinks Jon isn't for-good dead. Otherwise, what was the point of having Melisandre show up RIGHT before that? Sloppy careless writing, or purpose? Maybe I'm just in denial since he was the best eye candy and I loved his character.

Who do you think is the new member of Cersei's security? H and I were wondering if that was the Mountain. Did we ever see him die? I feel like I need to go back and watch the whole series 4 more times to keep everything straight. Her walk of shame, though, was painful to watch. It was awful. Obviously she's not a good person herself, but I still hope she gets some really brutal revenge for that. For some reason I kept thinking, "Ugh she has to go through all this and then find out her daughter is dead." Awful.

I'm glad Theon finally did SOMETHING. Totally gasped when he threw that chick over the balcony thing but I love that he did that. Finally! I really want to know what's next for him and Sansa (because I'm assuming they landed ok)

@novella1186 - I believe it's definitely the Mountain...  if you remember, the weird scientist guy asked for the Mountain/the Mountain's body after the fight with Oberyn...  and then a couple of episodes later, we saw the body under the sheet in the scientist guy's lab (it jumped up under the sheet)...  I guess he "rebuilt" him, lol.  But I'm fine with him never taking his helmet off, since I really don't want to see that...

Thank you! For about 15 minutes I was like "....wasn't he on the table in some lab or something....? Did that happen? Or did I just make that up?" And then H kept saying, "I think that happened? Now that you say that, I kind of remember it...?" Lol we apparently both have bad memories.

  • Definitely. And did you see his face? All purple and dead looking and whatnot? That's definitely a Frankenstein experiment.

    ----------probably SIB----------------------

That's what I said! H was all "His eyes didn't look like the Mountain, but they've had a bunch of different actors play him." And I was like, "Um... his skin was purple. Did you not see that?" He did not see that. lol

Dude, his eyes don't even look human much less like the Mountain's. I think they're trying to stick with this latest actor, though.
  • I always thought of him as Franken - Mountain.

Great episode, even though I knew the end was coming and I sobbed the whole scene.

  • UO - I thought the entire last episode was sloppy and boring. I wasn't even upset about Jon's death, and he is one of my FAVORITE characters. It just didn't seem like a "good" enough death for him, so I definitely don't think he is gone for good (despite what he said in an interview).

That said, my favorite part was when Arya stabbed that dude like a freaking beast. YOU GO GIRL. I knew it was going to bite her in the ass, but even if she is blind for the rest of the series, she is still going to be amazing. I just know it.

I thought the pacing of the episode was really bad. That bugged me a lot. It's like something big happens but there isn't a good lead-up or a second to let it sink in, so the impact it should have isn't there. I don't know.

I guess every episode skips around pretty fast since there's so many story lines and characters to cover but I feel like it's kind of a disservice to the show.

I totally agree with the bolded. I was just like 'ok..' at the end. I didn't like that Olly got involved, but i figured he was going to do something after he talked to Sam, and Sam was all like 'sometimes you know in your heart that you have to do something'. I thought he'd kill a wildling, maybe baby sam or something.

Gonna be a long wait until the next season now =(
